An established public healthcare institution is seeking an experienced Principal Pharmacist to take on a key leadership role overseeing Retail Pharmacy Operations and Pricing.
This is an excellent opportunity for a senior pharmacy professional who is ready to move beyond day-to-day pharmacy operations and play a strategic role in shaping retail performance, pricing frameworks, operational workflows and service excellence within the public healthcare sector.
Key Responsibilities
Retail Pharmacy Operations & Strategy
- Oversee the performance and day-to-day effectiveness of retail pharmacy operations
- Review and improve workflows covering stock ordering, returns, merchandising, cashiering and customer service
- Monitor retail pharmacy financial and service performance and develop action plans to address performance gaps
- Ensure pharmacy stocks are properly maintained, including effective expiry monitoring and wastage control
- Review customer feedback and implement service improvements
- Evaluate product ranges and identify opportunities to enhance retail revenue and meet evolving customer needs
- Develop strategies to support the future growth and expansion of retail pharmacy services
Team Leadership & Development
- Guide and evaluate Retail Assistants across merchandising, stock replenishment, housekeeping, cashiering and customer service
- Develop and implement structured training and skills-development programmes for the retail pharmacy team
- Promote strong teamwork and collaboration across retail and outpatient pharmacy functions
- Coach and develop team members to achieve operational and institutional objectives
Procurement & Stakeholder Collaboration
- Work closely with the relevant purchasing and supply-chain teams on pharmacy procurement matters
- Support pharmacy contracts, licensing requirements and manpower planning
- Participate in the rationalisation and implementation of national pharmacy initiatives, including central warehousing and central fill programmes
- Build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
Pricing Strategy & Governance
- Establish and maintain appropriate pharmacy pricing structures
- Make pricing decisions relating to margins and mark-ups
- Ensure pricing for individual item codes is accurately configured and implemented on time
- Establish appropriate checking and verification workflows for pricing set-up
- Support relevant healthcare financing workflows, including CDMP and Medifund
- Maintain strong governance and accuracy across pricing processes
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited College/School of Pharmacy
- Minimum 8 years of relevant pharmacy experience preferred
- Experience within a hospital, medical institution or healthcare environment would be highly advantageous
- Strong knowledge of pharmacy operations, retail management and/or pricing
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities with experience developing and motivating teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail
- Able to make sound decisions and remain calm in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Strong interpersonal, written, communication and presentation skills
- Able to collaborate effectively across different teams and levels of stakeholders
- Proactive, organised and capable of managing multiple priorities independently
- Comfortable learning and working with new systems, software and technology
