The posting

Position Summary:

This position provides process expertise for the daily production activities on site, and is responsible for implementing processes, scaling up products, introducing new products and troubleshooting issues that occur during processing in operations. The incumbent will also provide support, lead or drive any site initiatives or projects, in troubleshooting, quality/HSE incident investigation, continuous improvement, optimization, cost reduction, etc., as assigned by site management.

Functional Responsibilities:

  • Execute plans for launching new processes and products, and or producing experimental orders at Singapore Plant so that all internal and external requirements are met.
  • Work together with technical researchers to understand customer needs and translate those needs into manufacturing specifications.
  • Provide process and operational expertise in daily operations, and in the planning, installation and commissioning of plant improvement projects and modifications.
  • Write/maintain process functional descriptions, and incorporate process requirements into the site’s process control/automation system.
  • Develop and maintain process SOPs, and deliver process training to site personnel.
  • Process data mining for trending, investigation, reporting or other purposes.
  • Initiate and implement site Management of Change (MOC). Write Change Management reports for various stakeholders.
  • Develop, review and improve Bill of Materials (BoMs).
  • Troubleshoot and implement corrective actions to resolve equipment, processing or quality issues. Participate in Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Assist in developing and maintaining site’s Process Safety, including its management system, documentation and record keeping. Participate in or lead in Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) as required.
  • Complete all training as assigned by site management and the company.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts.
  • Execute HSE operational assignments as set by site management. Be involved, in a participative or leading role, in site HSE efforts, as designated by site management. This may include (not limited to) involvement in BBS, PTW, LOTOTO, safety committee, incident investigations, emergency responses, safety inspections, internal/local audits, risk assessments, hazard studies and others as deemed necessary by site management for continual improvement of site HSE performance.
  • Act as the deputy for Operations Manager in his/her absence. The temporary duty (acting) arrangements and extent of role expansion are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the specific needs of the situation and the incumbent's demonstrated ability to manage the added responsibilities without compromising their core duties.

Accountabilities

  • Scale up new processes and equipment to achieve product performance.
  • Work closely with business unit managers, project teams, operators and customers in order to commercialize new products.
  • Participate in design of production equipment, design reviews and development of programming controls.
  • Implement new equipment and applications that meet customer performance requirements.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve processing issues related to new product startup and to commercialized products.
  • Support the company’s scorecard by contributing to team efforts that strive to guarantee quality, minimize cost, meet delivery promises, maintain processes, and work safety.
  • Document experimental order plans, projects and customer information according to standard work measures.
  • Support site’s Process Safety initiatives.
  • Strict compliance to site HSE rules and regulations, and all other requirements of HSE management system, including the Safety Absolutes. Understood implications of non-compliances which may include HR disciplinary actions.

Technical Skills/Experience/Background/Traits:

  • Minimum 4 years in experience in local production in the chemical process industry or in related areas.
  • Ability to apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements.
  • Understanding of manufacturing environments, processes and procedures. Strong expertise in reactive chemistry and common unit operations in chemical processing.
  • Hands-on experience in product development/process engineering.
  • Ability to read, understand and modify PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley Controls) is a plus. Ability to operate and configure Batch Manager.
  • Expertise in Process Safety, its management system and methodologies preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to interact effectively with customers, management team and production personnel.
  • Ability to facilitate and drive resolution of complex problems.
  • Ability to travel internationally as needed.
  • Capable of working in a flexible, often shifting, environment.
  • Good leadership, organizational, interpersonal/people skills.
  • Good working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, SS651, cGMP, and microbial control practices in manufacturing HSE and Quality minded altitude.

Educational Preferences/Requirements:

  • BEng (Chemical) or BS in engineering/science field or equivalent experience.
