We are seeking a Production Chemist to provide technical and process support for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) manufacturing. The role will support safe, compliant and efficient production through process troubleshooting, optimisation, validation and continuous improvement.
You will work closely with Manufacturing, MSAT, Quality, Continuous Improvement, Engineering and HSE teams.
Key responsibilities:
- Provide day-to-day technical and process support for API manufacturing operations.
- Troubleshoot chemical processing issues and implement improvements to process efficiency, quality, robustness and yield.
- Conduct laboratory studies to investigate manufacturing issues and support process optimisation.
- Lead Continued Process Verification (CPV), including trending of Critical Process Parameters (CPPs), Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs) and process yield.
- Support root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives using structured methodologies such as DMAIC.
- Prepare, coordinate and implement process and cleaning validation activities.
- Support product and cleaning lifecycle management, including optimisation of cleaning processes.
- Support the development of Process Analytical Technology (PAT) models and maintenance of PAT instrumentation.
- Prepare, review and maintain production procedures, technical documents and process-related training materials.
- Assess plant, process and procedural changes from a process chemistry perspective.
- Participate in technology transfer, including technical assessments, process knowledge transfer and implementation.
- Participate in HAZOP studies, process safety assessments, safety reviews and audits.
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, HSE requirements, Quality policies and site procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
- At least 1 year of relevant experience in API manufacturing, MSAT or a related chemical industry.
- Hands-on experience in a process support or process development laboratory.
- Understanding of process chemistry, chemical engineering principles and manufacturing plant operations.
- Working knowledge of CPV, CPPs, CQAs, process yield and process robustness.
- Knowledge of process and cleaning validation principles.
- Basic understanding of pharmaceutical manufacturing process controls and automated systems.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis and structured problem-solving methodologies.
- Understanding of cGMP, HSE and process safety requirements.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Exposure to pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing operations is preferred.
