The posting
Role purpose
Install, test and commission CCTV andaccess control systems to approved requirements. Troubleshoot devices, recorders, networks, management and SQL servers, and archiver storage. Applyindependent judgement within agreed authority and verify performance foracceptance and handover.
Key responsibilities
Project handover and readiness
· Attend project handover withthe Technical Manager. Review scope, drawings, equipment, interfaces andacceptance criteria; identify gaps and raise queries through the ProjectManager to Pre-sales or the System Engineer.
· Plan site work and resourceswith the Project Manager. Confirm access, power, cabling, network allocationsand server prerequisites; flag constraints before mobilisation.
Installation and configuration
· Install cameras, NVRs, readers, controllers, locks, exit devices, door contacts and cabling. Guide techniciansand verify workmanship, labels, connections and locations against approveddrawings.
· Configure assigned IPaddresses, video streams, recording settings and access functions. Coordinateserver and integration setup with the System Engineer; use approved settingsand retain records.
Testing and commissioning
· Prepare installation checks, test cases and commissioning records for Technical Manager review. Completeinternal pre-testing against the requirements, resolve defects and establishreadiness before witnessed tests or User Acceptance Testing.
· Execute approved tests with theProject Manager and client representatives. Verify live views, recording, playback, retention, door operation, access events and specified interfaces;test backup, recovery and failover where included. Record results, rectifydefects and retest before acceptance.
Key responsibilities continued
Technical troubleshooting
· Diagnose faults systematically:confirm symptoms, review drawings and recent changes, inspect logs, trace dependencies and test likely causes. Isolate the fault, implement an approved solution and demonstrate recovery through repeatable functional tests.
· CCTV and NVRs: resolve connectivity, PoE, image quality, stream configuration, recording and playback faults, disk problems and retention gaps. Confirm affected cameras record correctly and footage can be retrieved.
· Access control: resolve readerand controller communications, power and lock faults, door input errors, synchronisation and access event issues. Test applicable emergency releaseinterfaces with the responsible site personnel.
· Networks: diagnose addressing,VLANs, switch ports, bandwidth, packet loss, DNS and time synchronisationissues. Coordinate changes to client infrastructure with authorised ITpersonnel.
· Management servers: investigate hardware and operating system health, application services, licensing, authentication, certificates, resource usage and client-server communications;validate system operation after authorised recovery.
· SQL servers: investigate service and database availability, connectivity, disk and transaction log growth, failed jobs or backups, and performance issues. Coordinate databaserepair, tuning or recovery with the Technical Manager, System Engineer, vendor or database specialist.
· Archiver and storage servers:diagnose recording services, stream ingestion, disk and RAID health, storageconnectivity, capacity and write performance. Validate recording continuity andplayback; report data loss and degraded redundancy promptly.
Independent judgement and technical coordination
· Identify technical gaps andemerging risks proactively. Assess options using evidence, system dependenciesand operational impact; propose a reasoned solution and act within approvedscope without waiting for step-by-step direction.
· Escalate unresolved orhigh-impact issues promptly with symptoms, diagnostic findings, actionsattempted, likely causes, options and a recommendation. Seek specialist supportwhen the issue exceeds competence or authority.
Documentation and handover
· Maintain progress updates, configuration records, as-built mark-ups and a defect register. Compile testevidence, asset information, operating instructions and training material forTechnical Manager review before submission through the Project Manager.
· Support user training andhandover to the client and Maintenance Engineer. Explain system operation, configurations, outstanding defects, warranty information and recovery procedures; track agreed closure actions.
Safety and limits of authority
· Follow approved site procedures and safety controls. Use appropriate PPE and tools; undertake controlled tasks only when trained and authorised. Protect credentials, client information, access records and recorded footage.
· Obtain approval for design departures, disruptive changes, live-system cutovers, database recovery and storage reconfiguration. Confirm backups and a rollback plan for approved disruptive work. Do not alter production data without authorisation or committo variations, purchases or final acceptance on the company’s behalf.
Qualifications and experience
Essential
· Diploma or degree in electrical, electronics, information technology, computer engineering or a related discipline; equivalent relevant practical experience may be considered.
· At least five years of relevant experience implementing and troubleshooting CCTV and access control systems, including hands-on installation, testing, commissioning and supporting serverdiagnosis.
· Able to interpret wiring diagrams and system architecture, use diagnostic tools, analyse logs and troubleshoot independently. Practical knowledge of IP networking, Windowsservers, SQL dependencies, NVRs and recording storage is required.
· Demonstrated independent thinking: identify missing information, develop and test fault hypotheses, compare solutions and explain decisions. Take ownership of technical problems while recognising when approval or specialist support is necessary.
· Able to coordinate technicians, maintain accurate technical records and communicate clearly with clients, vendors, the Project Manager and technical colleagues.
Preferred
· Experience with enterprise CCTVand access control platforms such as Genetec, Milestone, Gallagher orcomparable systems, and common camera, recorder and reader manufacturers.
· Relevant manufacturer, networking or server certifications; experience with integration, virtualisation, RAID or network storage, backup recovery and failover testing.
· Relevant site safety trainingand a driving licence suitable for assigned company vehicles.
Working arrangements
Work at project sites and company premises.Attend agreed testing and cutover windows, including work outside normal hours.Support maintenance or standby when assigned and briefed. Equipment handlingand work at height require appropriate controls. Employment terms and theroster govern working hours and overtime.
Performance expectations
· Delivery: complete assigned installation and commissioning milestones to the agreed project schedule;report dependencies and anticipated delays with a recovery proposal.
· Quality: installations meet approved drawings and requirements. Record defects, complete corrective actions and retain successful retest evidence before acceptance.
· Troubleshooting: maintain diagnostic evidence and verify resolution. Review repeated faults and reworkwith the Technical Manager and implement agreed improvements.
· Acceptance and handover: submit complete test and system records within agreed deadlines, obtain TechnicalManager review and support client sign-off and maintenance handover.
· Judgement and conduct: identify risks early, propose justified solutions and escalate within agreed thresholds.Follow safety and change procedures and complete assigned competency development.
The Technical Manager and Project Manager agree targets and review project and test records.
