Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, the Purchasing Officer is responsible for coordinating day‑to‑day purchasing activities in support of operational requirements. The role includes managing purchase orders, liaising with vessels, operations, suppliers, forwarders and finance teams, and ensuring procurement activities align with company policies, budgets, and schedules to support continuity of operations and minimise supply delays.
As Purchasing Officer, you will:
- Manage day‑to‑day purchasing of vessel equipment, spare parts, consumables, and hardware based on approved purchase requisitions.
- Procure specialist contractor services in accordance with approved work requisitions.
- Coordinate procurement of food stores from approved suppliers in line with vessel manning budgets.
- Prepare, issue, and finalise purchase orders in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of vessel schedules and forward planning needs to ensure timely purchasing and delivery.
- Source, evaluate, and recommend suppliers and service providers for management approval.
- Manage supplier relationships to ensure efficient, cost‑effective acquisition of goods and services.
- Respond to internal purchasing enquiries and liaise with vessel crews, operations, and technical staff regarding pricing, availability, and specifications.
- Maintain purchasing records, including PO trackers and MSR housekeeping.
- Provide timely reports and purchasing communications to vessels, operations, and shore-based personnel.
- Respond promptly to finance and accounts queries.
- Contribute to cost control by minimising delays and ensuring timely supply of essential items.
Skills, Experience and Knowledge
- Experience processing high volumes of data with strong numeracy and attention to detail.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar role, preferably in a multi‑company or operational environment.
- Knowledge and exposure to the Oil & Gas industry, particularly the marine sector (highly regarded).
- Ability to understand business objectives, operational priorities, and client requirements.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Diploma or higher qualification in procurement, supply chain, or a related discipline (preferred).
