ASE is a diverse school focusing on the connections between geosciences, ecology, society and Earth systems. Our approach integrates these disciplines to examine big environmental challenges both in Southeast Asia and globally. We conduct cutting-edge research on topics that include ecology, geohazards, climate change, sea-level rise, environmental sustainability, conservation of environment and biodiversity, and interactions between environment and society. The Yanyan Cheng research group is seeking a Research Associate. This position is part of a Singapore MOE funded research project hosted by ASE. The Research Associate will help advance research in integrated assessment modeling and understand interactions among land, water, carbon, energy, climate, ecosystems, and human systems.

This is a one-year appointment and potentially renewable based on performance and funding availability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collect, curate, validate, and document large-scale multimodal ecohydrological remote sensing datasets.
  • Train and evaluate models on large datasets and high-performance computing systems; establish reproducible baselines, ablation studies, and evaluation suites.
  • Apply the developed datasets and models to the monitoring and analysis of tropical ecohydrological processes.

Job Requirements:

  • The candidate should hold a master's degree in information and communication engineering, with research experience in 3D point-cloud or point-cloud sequence processing, is highly desirable.
  • The candidate should posse extensive relevant experience in model design and development, programming implementation, experimental design and evaluation, and peer-reviewed scientific writing.
  • The candidate should have demonstrated research expertise in both remote sensing and computer vision.
  • The candidate should have a strong publication record. Preference will be given to candidates with first- or co-first-author papers in CCF Rank A computer science venues (e.g., CVPR) and leading peer-reviewed remote sensing journals (e.g., IEEE TGRS).
  • The candidate should have strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB, together with practical experience in deep-learning frameworks such as PyTorch, remote sensing data processing, Linux environments, and high-performance computing.
  • The candidate must be able to communicate fluently and demonstrate strong academic writing skills for papers, reports, and presentations.
  • The candidate should be able to work independently and collaboratively, manage large datasets and research codebases, meet project deadlines, and produce reproducible research outputs.
  • Interpersonal skill (e.g. Ability to work independently / develop solutions under strict timelines, meticulous and eye for details / excellent organizational / time management skills).
