Job Description

This position focuses on the development of high-efficiency integrated nonlinear and quantum photonic devices. The candidate will conduct theoretical modeling, numerical simulation, device design, nanofabrication, optical characterization, and experimental testing of hybrid waveguides, quantum light sources, and waveguide-integrated single-photon detectors.

The main research activities include: 1. Developing high-efficiency nonlinear optical devices based on van der Waals–Si₃N₄ hybrid waveguides. The work will involve optimizing optical confinement, modal overlap, phase matching, propagation loss, and nonlinear frequency-conversion efficiency. The work will focus on device optimization, fabrication, and experimental verification. 2. Developing superconducting single-photon detectors integrated with optical waveguides. The research will optimize the interaction between the optical mode and superconducting nanowires, with emphasis on optical absorption, detection efficiency, device geometry, fabrication tolerance, timing performance, and compatibility with integrated quantum photonic circuits. 3. Developing high-efficiency quantum light sources based on periodically poled lithium tantalate. The work will investigate spontaneous parametric down-conversion, quasi-phase matching, waveguide dispersion, nonlinear modal overlap, photon-pair generation efficiency, spectral purity, and quantum-state control.

The candidate will collaborate with researchers in integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, superconducting photonics, nanofabrication, and advanced optical materials. The overall objective is to develop scalable integrated platforms combining quantum-light generation, manipulation, transmission, and single-photon detection.

Qualifications

1. PhD degree in Photonics, Optical Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Applied Physics, or a relevant field, with a strong background in integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum optics, or nanophotonics.

2. Research experience and knowledge in nonlinear optical materials, van der Waals materials, optical waveguides, quantum light sources, superconducting single-photon detectors, and nanofabrication.

3. Strong mathematical and theoretical knowledge of electromagnetic theory, waveguide optics, nonlinear optics, second-harmonic generation, spontaneous parametric down-conversion, and quasi-phase matching.

4. Technical proficiency in numerical modeling and analysis of optical waveguides, photonic structures, and nonlinear optical processes; design and optimization of van der Waals–Si₃N₄ hybrid waveguides, PPLT-based quantum light sources, and waveguide-integrated superconducting single-photon detectors; experimental characterization of nonlinear optical processes, photon correlations, and single-photon detection; and nanofabrication techniques including electron-beam lithography, reactive-ion etching, thin-film deposition, and electron-beam evaporation.

5. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary research teams.

6. The candidate should have a strong publication record in reputable international journals in integrated photonics, nonlinear optics, quantum photonics, nanophotonics, or related fields.

7. Open to Fixed Term Contract.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.

What if my background isn't good enough?

We make the most of the background you have. The CV uses every piece of relevant proof your profile holds, and one of the 25 readers reads your whole profile and flags what the CV left out.

Do you really apply for me?

Yes, on the employer's own form, the hardest ones included. Where a question needs you, you answer it right there and AI suggests the best answer. Don't want us applying from our IP addresses? Use our Chrome extension: we apply straight from your own browser.

Is it a subscription?

No. You pay once per CV, from $25. Every application goes out with its own CV, written for that posting.
