Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Junior Sous Chef – Savory to support the culinary leadership team in delivering high-quality savory dishes. This role requires a strong background in savory cooking techniques, kitchen operations, and team leadership. You will assist in overseeing the day-to-day kitchen activities, ensuring consistent food quality, maintaining hygiene standards, and mentoring junior staff.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Sous Chef and Area Chef by managing savory kitchen operations to ensure smooth daily workflow
  • Supervise and guide line cooks and kitchen assistants during preparation and service to maintain efficiency and quality
  • Prepare and present savory dishes consistently according to established recipes and standards
  • Maintain rigorous food hygiene, cleanliness, and safety standards across all kitchen areas
  • Monitor stock levels, assist with inventory management, and report shortages promptly to the Sous Chef
  • Ensure proper storage and accurate labeling of all food items to maintain freshness and compliance
  • Assist in developing and testing new savory menu items and specials to enhance the culinary offering
  • Facilitate clear communication between kitchen stations and coordinate with front-of-house teams for seamless service
  • Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to improve their culinary skills and operational efficiency
  • Enforce compliance with health and safety regulations and HACCP standards to guarantee a safe kitchen environment
  • Take charge of kitchen operations in the absence of the Sous Chef or Head Chef, ensuring continuity and quality

Preferred competencies and qualifications

  • Relevant culinary experience gained through professional kitchens, culinary education, or personal practice demonstrating passion and skill
  • Basic kitchen skills including familiarity with kitchen tools, cooking techniques, and safety procedures, or willingness to learn
  • Strong team spirit demonstrated by effective communication, fast-paced work capability, and positive energy
  • Commitment to quality reflected in attention to detail and pride in delivering excellent dishes
  • Flexibility to adapt and contribute in a dynamic, evolving café environment
  • Passion for food as a craft and a means to create memorable experiences
