Responsibilities

As a Claims Handler, you will support the administration and handling of marine insurance claims from notification through to settlement. Working closely with the Claims Manager, Senior Claims Executives, and Senior Claims Handlers, you will coordinate claims activities, liaise with insurers and service providers, maintain claims records, and ensure claims are progressed efficiently and accurately.

Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist in the handling of marine insurance claims from notification to settlement, ensuring timely follow-up and coordination with clients, insurers, surveyors, lawyers, and other stakeholders.
  • Review and verify claims documentation, supporting information, and correspondence to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with policy requirements.
  • Liaise with insurers, P&I Clubs, surveyors, loss adjusters, lawyers, and service providers to obtain updates, supporting documents, and information required for claims progression.
  • Monitor claims developments and proactively follow upon outstanding documentation, reserve updates, payment statuses, and settlement matters.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date claims records within internal systems, ensuring proper documentation, filing discipline, and audit readiness.
  • Process, track, and distribute incoming claims-related correspondence, ensuring timely action and appropriate escalation where necessary.
  • Assist in preparing claims summaries, reports, bordereaux, loss statistics, and management information for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation and processing of claims payments, recoveries, and related financial documentation in coordination with the Finance Department.
  • Identify straightforward claims issues, delays, or discrepancies and take appropriate follow-up actions or escalate to senior team members where required.
  • Apply knowledge of marine insurance claims processes, policy documentation, and market practices to support effective claims handling and service delivery.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across Broking, Finance, Compliance, and Operations functions to ensure efficient coordination and resolution of claims matters.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance claims workflows, documentation standards, and operational efficiency.
  • Demonstrate adaptability and a continuous learning mindset by supporting new systems, processes, and claims-related projects as required.

Education & Experience

The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following qualifications, skills, and capabilities:

  • Knowledge of Insurance, Maritime Studies, Business, Law, or a related discipline, acquired through formal education, professional training, or relevant practical experience.
  • Experience in insurance, insurance broking, claims administration, customer service, financial services, or a related administrative environment will be advantageous.
  • Understanding of claims handling processes, documentation requirements, and stakeholder coordination activities.
  • Ability to review documents accurately and maintain a high standard of detail and quality.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage multiple claims, priorities, and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with clients, insurers, service providers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Outlook, Word, Excel, and document management systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to identify issues and recommend practical solutions.
  • Interest in marine insurance, shipping, risk management, or claims management.
  • Demonstrated willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of claims administration, insurance documentation, and operational processes relevant to marine insurance claims.
  • Collaborates effectively across departments and functions to support efficient claims progression and service delivery.
  • Organises and prioritises multiple tasks effectively while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
  • Shows initiative and accountability in managing assigned responsibilities and following through on outstanding matters.
  • Demonstrates adaptability and a continuous improvement mindset by embracing new processes, systems, and ways of working.
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises sound judgement when handling sensitive claims information and documentation.
