Who We Are

Open Government Products (OGP) is an experimental technology team within the Singapore Government. We build technology for public good — creating products that directly improve the lives of millions of people in Singapore.

We operate with the speed and autonomy of a startup, while working on problems with national scale and impact. Our teams are made up of engineers, designers, product managers, and operators who identify real public problems, rapidly prototype solutions, and bring them into production.

Our products span citizen-facing services and critical internal government systems. We work in small, empowered teams with high ownership, minimal bureaucracy, and a strong open-source and engineering culture.

The Team

In 2024, over S$1.1 billion was lost to scams in Singapore. Victims range from elderly folks losing their life savings to young professionals deceived through increasingly sophisticated government impersonation scams. Public education alone is no longer enough. Preventing scams at scale requires trusted infrastructure, secure communication systems, and technology that can stay ahead of rapidly evolving threats.

The Secure Government Communications (SGC) team builds systems that help Singaporeans distinguish legitimate government communications from scams.

Our products include:

  • Postman - a secure messaging platform that enables government agencies to communicate officially and safely with the public
  • Gov.sg Sender ID - Singapore’s unified trusted sender identity for government SMS communications

These systems sit at the intersection of security, reliability, identity, and public trust — serving millions of citizens and supporting critical national communications infrastructure.

About the Role

As a Senior / Lead Software Engineer on the SGC team, you’ll design and build secure, high-reliability systems that operate at national scale.

You’ll work across the stack — from frontend experiences to backend services and cloud infrastructure — helping shape the architecture, engineering standards, and long-term technical direction of critical public platforms.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy high ownership, solving complex technical problems, and building products that have meaningful real-world impact.

As a Senior Engineer, you will additionally:

  • Drive technical architecture and engineering strategy for critical systems.
  • Lead complex initiatives spanning multiple services or stakeholders.
  • Improve platform security, resilience, scalability, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor and grow other engineers through technical leadership and code reviews.
  • Identify high-leverage opportunities and help shape product and technical direction.

What We’re Looking For

We value engineers who:

  • Care deeply about building reliable, secure, and user-centric software.
  • Thrive in fast-moving, high-ownership environments.
  • Balance pragmatism with strong engineering fundamentals.
  • Communicate clearly and collaborate effectively across disciplines.
  • Are motivated by meaningful public impact.

Technical skills and experience

  • Strong software engineering fundamentals and experience building production systems.
  • Experience with modern web and cloud technologies such as: TypeScript React Node.js AWS / cloud-native infrastructure API-first system design
  • Familiarity with secure software development practices, including: CI/CD pipelines Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Git-based workflows Cloud deployments and observability
  • Experience operating systems in production and debugging real-world reliability issues.

Additional qualities for Senior/Lead Engineers

  • Experience leading large or technically complex projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make sound architectural and technical tradeoff decisions.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising engineering quality within teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Don't hesitate to apply, even if you don't meet every qualification. If your background is a better fit for another engineering team at OGP, we may reach out to discuss those opportunities as part of the hiring process.

Solve meaningful technical challenges

Our systems require strong engineering across security, reliability, scalability, identity, messaging infrastructure, and developer tooling.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
