about the job

As a Senior Property Underwriter, you will drive the underwriting strategy and risk assessment for commercial property portfolios across the South East Asia region. You will evaluate complex technical exposures, structure manuscript policy wordings, and manage broker relationships within a dynamic regional trading environment. The position involves managing portfolio growth through technical pricing integrity, risk engineering collaboration, and strategic capacity deployment.

• Technical Underwriting: Evaluating complex commercial property risks, analyzing exposure data, and determining appropriate rates, terms, and capacity limits in alignment with regional underwriting guidelines.

• Portfolio Management: Monitoring line-of-business performance across South East Asian markets to ensure target loss ratios and strategic portfolio diversification are maintained.

• Broker & Client Engagement: Maintaining regular technical dialogues with international and regional insurance brokers to negotiate policy structures, coverage terms, and renewal strategies.

• Policy Structuring & Compliance: Drafting manuscript policy wordings, reviewing slip conditions, and ensuring all underwriting activities comply with statutory regulations and local market guidelines.

• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partnering with internal risk engineering, claims, and actuarial teams to assess physical loss potential and refine pricing models for regional property assets.

You will report directly to the Head of Property for South East Asia and work within an established team of regional underwriting professionals. The team emphasizes direct engagement with leadership, collaborative knowledge sharing, and structured peer review processes. The division operates with close alignment to regional distribution channels to support business expansion across target markets.

skills and experience required

To be considered for this position, you should meet the following requirements:

• Experience: Minimum 10 years of property underwriting experience within the commercial insurance sector, including exposure to South East Asian markets.

• Technical Skills: Experience in risk assessment, technical pricing, manuscript policy drafting, and managing commercial property risks.

• Market Knowledge: Knowledge of South East Asian commercial property insurance regulations, reinsurance structures, and regional broker networks.

• Education: Bachelor's degree in business, finance, insurance, engineering, or a relevant field of study.

• Professional Certification: ANZIIF, ACII, or equivalent professional insurance qualifications.
