Job Title: Senior Technician / Technician
The technician will be responsible for the daily operations and technical support of the Biology Research Laboratories within the Scholastic Renaissance Centre (SRC). The role primarily supports student research projects, research-related activities, practical work, events and workshops conducted in the research laboratories.
Responsibilities:
1. Laboratory Operations & Technical Support
- Support laboratory preparation, equipment operation, routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting.
- Provide technical guidance to students undertaking research projects and laboratory activities.
- Prepare and manage laboratory materials, reagents, equipment and microorganisms as required.
2. Laboratory Safety & Compliance
- Ensure laboratory activities comply with safety procedures, risk assessments and established SOPs.
- Support the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals, biological materials and laboratory waste.
3. Inventory & Administration
- Manage laboratory inventory, procurement, receiving of goods, invoices and related documentation.
- Maintain accurate records of laboratory equipment, materials and procedures.
4. Coordination & Support
- Work with students, teachers, project mentors, laboratory staff and other stakeholders to support SRC activities.
- Support research-related events, workshops, sabbatical programmes and other school activities as required.
- Coordinate and support laboratory attendants where required.
Requirements:
- Diploma or Degree in Biology, Biological Sciences, Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a research or educational setting.
- Good knowledge of laboratory techniques, equipment operation and basic troubleshooting, with a strong understanding of laboratory safety and chemical/biological waste management.
- Experience in laboratory inventory, procurement and related administrative processes.
- Good communication, organisational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience supporting student research or laboratory practicals, and relevant laboratory/biosafety training, would be an advantage.
- For Senior Technician appointment, candidates should demonstrate stronger technical expertise and the ability to independently manage laboratory operations and research support activities.
