The posting

NES Fircroft is currently recruiting a Senior Weight Control Engineer to support offshore Oil & Gas engineering projects.

The successful candidate will act as the focal point for weight estimation, weight control, centre of gravity (COG) management, and weight reporting for complex offshore developments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all weight control and weight management activities throughout project execution, from concept and FEED through detailed engineering, construction, load-out, transportation, installation, and as-built stages.
  • Develop and maintain project weight control procedures, weight budgets, reporting templates, and periodic weight control reports.
  • Establish and manage weight budgets, Not-To-Exceed (NTE) weights, and COG envelopes for topside modules and offshore facilities.
  • Perform weight estimation and forecasting using historical benchmarks and engineering judgement where discipline inputs are unavailable.
  • Consolidate, review, validate, and maintain weight and COG data received from all engineering disciplines.
  • Identify missing, duplicated, or inconsistent weight inputs and coordinate with discipline leads to resolve discrepancies.
  • Monitor weight growth trends and provide timely recommendations to mitigate weight overruns and COG deviations.
  • Review contractor, vendor, and subcontractor weight reports to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Drive weight optimisation initiatives and advise engineering teams on opportunities to reduce topsides weight and manage COG impacts.
  • Manage weight change tracking systems and evaluate the impact of approved and potential design changes.
  • Support physical weighing campaigns and verify compliance with project and contractual requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews, audits, verification activities, and engagements with classification societies and regulatory bodies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of weight management processes, tools, and methodologies.

Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in offshore oil and gas engineering projects, including FPSO and offshore platform developments.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Senior Weight Control Engineer or in a similar lead weight management role.
  • Proven experience supporting medium to large-scale FPSO projects across various project phases.
  • Strong understanding of offshore topsides systems, module design, marine operations, transportation, lifting, and installation activities.
  • Experience in both greenfield and brownfield offshore developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to forecast weight growth, manage COG changes, and develop effective mitigation solutions.

Essential Technical Expertise

Candidates must demonstrate experience in:

  • Developing and managing FPSO weight control reports.
  • Planning and participating in physical weighing operations in fabrication yards and offshore environments.
  • Verifying and validating weight inputs received from multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Identifying missing, duplicated, or anomalous weight data and resolving discrepancies.
  • Estimating topsides module weights and COG during early project phases using limited engineering information.
  • Preparing comprehensive weight budgets, weight forecasts, and weight control reports.
  • Reviewing 3D models (E3D, Aveva E3D, Navisworks or equivalent), layouts, MTOs, vendor documentation, and engineering deliverables for weight assessments.

Desired Skills

  • Strong technical report writing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to engage confidently with clients, project management teams, engineering disciplines, and verification authorities.
  • Good understanding of offshore structural steel, piping systems, and associated material specifications.
  • Familiarity with international industry standards including ISO, API, NORSOK, and other relevant offshore engineering standards.
  • Highly analytical with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and multicultural project teams.

Why Apply?

  • Opportunity to work on large-scale FPSO and offshore energy developments.
  • Exposure to complex international engineering projects.
  • Collaborative and technically challenging environment with strong career development opportunities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
