Role Overview
Our client is seeking a Trading Analyst to support its crude oil and petrochemical trading activities. The successful candidate will conduct market and fundamental analysis, monitor physical and paper markets, and provide data-driven insights to support trading, hedging and risk management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor global crude oil and petrochemical markets, including supply/demand fundamentals, inventories, refinery operations, trade flows and other key market drivers.
- Conduct fundamental and quantitative analysis across crude oil and petrochemical products, including pricing, spreads, margins, futures curves and derivatives.
- Identify potential trading, arbitrage and hedging opportunities through market research and data analysis.
- Develop market views and trading ideas to support trading and hedging strategies.
- Support the monitoring of paper trading and derivatives positions, including market exposure, P&L and risk indicators.
- Prepare regular market reports, outlooks and ad-hoc research for management and trading teams.
- Work closely with Trading, Finance, Risk, Operations and Legal teams on trade execution, position management and post-trade analysis.
- Maintain market intelligence through brokers, exchanges, data providers and industry contacts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 3 years' relevant experience in energy, petrochemical or commodity trading, futures, investment banking, hedge funds, research or related sectors.
- Good understanding of crude oil and/or petrochemical markets, including fundamentals, pricing mechanisms, derivatives and trading practices.
- Experience analysing commodity spreads, crack spreads, product margins and/or futures curves preferred.
- Strong analytical, numerical and research skills with proficiency in Excel and relevant analytical tools.
- Strong report writing, presentation and communication skills.
- Able to work effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Proficiency in English and Mandarin, including the ability to review Chinese-language market information and communicate with Mandarin-speaking stakeholders.
