Nomura's Finance department manages the company's financial operations and provides financial guidance to support business decision-making. The team collaborates with senior leadership, business units, and stakeholders to develop effective financial strategies, providing guidance on financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis to align financial operations with business objectives.

Treasury is an established function within the Finance division at Nomura. The department has regional teams in Japan, AEJ, EMEA and the US. The team is responsible for all aspects of liquidity and funding requirements of the firm in accordance with the Executive Management Boards mandated risk appetite and in compliance with regulatory liquidity metrics.

Role Description

The Treasury Business Finance Control (BFC) team looks after trade support and revenue reporting, control and governance based in Singapore. Product coverage includes vanilla Fixed Income and FX products and internal structured funding structures. The team within BFC at Nomura acts as a key advisory and value-add function to the business covering various aspects of finance (eg. Treasury Funding charges, Unsecured Funding, Issuance funding booking model, FX sell down, legal entity booking model, business analysis, issuance-entity related projects, financial resource optimization, cross-functional liaison etc.)

Responsibilities

P&L, Balance Sheet and Legal Entity Control

  • Own the overall integrity of daily/monthly P&L for Treasury & Corporate books, providing senior review and sign-off on revenue attribution across key drivers (funding spread, interest rate risk, FX translation, liquidity premium).
  • Take ownership of significant P&L and BS movements across all regional entities feeding into overall Global Treasury pool: maintain sources and uses of funds for the regional entities, and act as the primary escalation point to Funding Desk Head.
  • Oversee regional issuance entity from Treasury PC perspective, ensuring controls are consistently applied and enhanced during key reporting periods (month-end, quarter-end); identify gaps and drive remediation where control breaches or near-misses occur.
  • Provide support to other business line controllers as the SPOC on funding allocation and new FTP going live working closely with Treasury planning team. Implement appropriate accounting in legal entities as required (e.g. hedge accounting)

Governance, Policy & Controls

  • Support book management processes including book opening/closing, dormancy reviews for Treasury and Corporate books.
  • Participate in Trading Book / Banking Book classification reviews, ensuring appropriate approvals (Reg Cap, PC, Market Risk) are obtained and documented ahead of any reclassification.
  • Maintain robust documentation trails for governance decisions to support audit and regulatory review.
  • Investigate and resolve breaks (e.g., P&L and control account/book breaks), identifying root causes, coordinating with Middle Office/Settlements, and escalating governance gaps to the appropriate action owner.
  • Ensure timely escalation of outstanding breaks to Senior Management and Business per control standards.

Business Partnership & Strategy

  • Partner directly with Treasury Desk Heads to identify and drive opportunities for funding cost optimization.
  • Enhance funding-related analytics in partnership with Global Markets (GM), developing improved attribution and insight into funding cost drivers, cross-desk funding usage, and cost allocation methodologies to support desk-level decision-making.
  • Lead the design and enhancement of Unsecured Funding (UF) reporting, improving transparency, granularity, and consistency of UF metrics presented to senior stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to Treasury and GM stakeholders on the P&L and balance sheet implications of proposed funding structures within the region.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline or automate recurring funding and UF reporting processes, reducing manual/best-efforts workarounds where scalable solutions can be developed.

Team Leadership

  • Develop a team of finance professionals in both on and offshore
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Treasury, Regulatory Reporting, Risk, Operations, Middle Office and Technology teams
  • Mentor junior team members and support their career growth

Requirements

  • Minimum Degree in Accounting, Economics or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in a Product Control function supporting Treasury or Fixed Income businesses, including at least 3 years of experience managing and developing teams.
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in treasury and money market products, with demonstrated experience in repos, deposits, FX swaps, interest rate derivatives, internal funding /hedging structures.
  • Experience in P&L attribution, FX Exposure, FX Sell down, standard funding charges, cross border booking and controls
  • Strong understanding of Accounting ledger entries (debit/credit) and technical accounting (like hedge accounting and hedge effectiveness)
  • Proven track record of partnering with business leaders and influencing strategic decisions
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex financial data.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong technical, analytical and problem solving skills.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
