Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."

We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.

Join our journey building AI capability across BNZ!

At Bank of New Zealand, we’re transforming how AI is designed, built, and scaled across the organisation. This role sits at the heart of that journey.

As a Power Platform and AI Specialist, you will take technical ownership of key components of BNZ’s AI Low Code Platform. You will lead the engineering and operational maturity of Power Platform environments, deployment pipelines, automation, support practices, and reporting that enable Copilot Studio agents to be delivered safely and reliably at enterprise scale.

Please note this role is known as a Senior Technical Specialist internally.

Mō te Tūranga | About the Role

We sat down with our Platform Lead, and they let us know the following about the role.

What are some of the responsibilities for this role?

  • Own the technical design, engineering maturity, and reliable operation of assigned platform capabilities.
  • Lead implementation of the platform roadmap, translating architectural direction and control requirements into secure, supportable, production-ready services.
  • Establish and evolve engineering standards, reference patterns, automation, release controls, and operational practices that make agent delivery repeatable, resilient, and compliant.
  • Make and document technical decisions across environments, application lifecycle management, deployment pipelines, automation, integration, security, support, and service operations.
  • Lead complex troubleshooting and coordinate the resolution of cross-platform incidents, technical risks, and delivery blockers.
  • Provide authoritative technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, makers, and delivery teams, and influence architects, security teams, platform owners, and business stakeholders.
  • Identify platform risks, capability gaps, and improvement opportunities; use operational evidence to prioritise them and drive agreed actions through to measurable outcomes.

What projects or work will the candidate be involved in now and over the next year?

In the near term, you will lead work to establish a stable, automated, and well-governed platform. This includes setting technical direction for environments, deployment pipelines, operational support, reporting, and engineering practices; resolving complex cross-domain dependencies; and taking assigned capabilities from design through to reliable production operation. As the capability matures, you will lead the design and delivery of complex business process agents for BNZ.

What is the most exciting thing about this opportunity?

You will join a newly established team with the mandate to shape how BNZ scales low-code AI. This is an opportunity to develop critical platform capabilities, influence enterprise technical direction, and establish the engineering and operational foundations for a growing service. The role combines accountable delivery today with significant scope to define standards, guide others, and mature the platform over time.

What will success look like for the candidate in this role?

Success means BNZ’s low-code platform capabilities are secure, reliable, observable, supportable, and able to scale. Teams can deliver Copilot Studio agents through clear standards, effective automation, controlled releases, and practical operational processes. Technical decisions are well documented, risks and incidents are driven to resolution, stakeholders have confidence in the service, and engineers and makers benefit from your guidance. Over time, you will also establish strong capability in the design and delivery of complex business process agents.

What specific technical skills would be beneficial?

You will bring senior-level technical judgement, strong stakeholder influence, and a platform engineering mindset, backed by experience owning outcomes for enterprise technology services. You will be comfortable making decisions with incomplete information, navigating complex dependencies, setting standards, and remaining accountable from design through to production operation.

Deep Power Platform experience is required; experience with Managed Jenkins, Terraform, GitHub, Azure, Copilot Studio, and related enterprise integrations is desirable. We are also looking for:

  • Platform Engineering & Automation: Demonstrated ownership of enterprise platform capabilities, including the design and automation of resilient environment, deployment, monitoring, and operational services.
  • Environment & Pipeline Leadership: Deep understanding of Power Platform environment strategy, application lifecycle management, deployment pipelines, source control, release governance, and production controls.
  • Governance, Security & Risk: Ability to translate architecture, security, compliance, and risk requirements into pragmatic engineering standards and controls for enterprise low-code AI delivery.
  • Integration & Technical Decision-Making: Strong experience designing integrations across enterprise systems, APIs, connectors, identity, and data sources, with the ability to evaluate options, document decisions, and manage technical trade-offs.
  • Technical Influence & Agentic Design: Proven ability to mentor technical practitioners, influence senior stakeholders, and guide delivery teams, with the capability to lead the design of conversational and multistep agentic solutions that support complex business processes.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
