High Plainz Strains is hiring a full-time Front Desk Associate for our Garden City dispensary.
Our Garden City store serves customers from throughout the Greeley area through both our retail dispensary and drive-thru. Front Desk helps keep that traffic organized while handling one of the store's most important compliance responsibilities: making sure customers entering the dispensary are properly identified and checked in.
This is an entry-level cannabis retail position. Previous cannabis experience is helpful, but it isn't required.
We're looking for someone who communicates well, can keep track of several things happening at once and understands that being friendly with customers doesn't mean taking shortcuts with procedures.
What You'll Do
Front Desk is the connection between customers arriving at the store and the rest of the retail team.
Responsibilities include:
- Greeting and checking in customers
- Verifying identification and following required entry procedures
- Helping manage customer flow into the dispensary
- Answering incoming phone calls
- Answering basic questions about the store and products
- Assisting with online orders
- Checking online orders for accuracy and completeness
- Helping coordinate in-store and drive-thru customer traffic
- Communicating with budtenders and store leadership
- Learning our products and basic cannabis product categories
- Supporting the sales floor during busy periods
- Keeping the Front Desk, lobby and customer areas clean and organized
- Following Colorado cannabis regulations and company procedures
- Recognizing problems or unusual situations and involving a supervisor when appropriate
ID verification is a core responsibility.
We expect the same procedure to be followed whether you're checking in someone you've never met or a regular customer you've seen a hundred times.
What the Job Is Actually Like
Garden City can move quickly.
Customers may be arriving in the lobby while online and drive-thru orders are moving through the store, phones need to be answered and budtenders need information.
The Front Desk employee needs to maintain awareness of what's happening without becoming overwhelmed by it.
We're not looking for someone who simply sits at the entrance.
We're looking for someone who can communicate with customers, keep information organized, notice when something isn't right and help the rest of the retail team keep the operation moving.
There will also be slower periods. Those are opportunities to organize, clean, learn products, work with online orders and help with other appropriate retail responsibilities.
Schedule
This is a full-time position, generally scheduled around 35 hours per week.
Our Garden City dispensary operates seven days a week, so applicants should be available for a retail schedule that can include:
- Opening and morning shifts
- Weekends
- Holidays
Schedules are established according to store staffing and business needs.
Pay and Tips
Base Pay: $15.16/hour + tips
Front Desk employees receive a portion of tips generated by the budtenders working during their shift.
Tips vary according to customer traffic, sales, staffing, shift and other factors and are not guaranteed.
What We're Looking For
The strongest Front Desk candidate isn't necessarily the person who knows the most about cannabis.
We're looking for someone who:
- Enjoys working with customers
- Communicates clearly
- Notices details
- Follows procedures consistently
- Can keep several tasks organized at once
- Remains composed during busy periods
- Can deal professionally with an upset or impatient customer
- Is comfortable using computers and learning retail systems
- Works effectively with different coworkers and personalities
- Takes feedback well
- Knows when something needs a supervisor's attention
- Can be trusted to do things correctly even when taking a shortcut would be easier
Experience in retail, restaurants, hospitality, reception, grocery, banking, convenience stores, customer service or similar work can translate well.
Previous dispensary experience and cannabis product knowledge are useful, but they aren't required.
We can teach someone about flower, concentrates, edibles, cannabinoids and the products we sell.
It's considerably harder to teach someone to be dependable or to care about doing things correctly.
You also don't need to make cannabis your entire personality to work here. You need to enjoy working with people, be comfortable in a cannabis retail environment and take the responsibilities of a regulated business seriously.
Colorado Cannabis Requirements
Applicants must be at least 21 years old.
Employees must have an active Colorado Marijuana Enforcement Division (MED) Employee License before beginning regulated cannabis work.
Already having an active MED license is helpful, but it is not required when you apply.
Candidates who are eligible and willing to obtain one before beginning regulated work are welcome to apply.
Employees are responsible for obtaining, maintaining and paying for their required MED license.

Learn the Retail Business From the Front
Front Desk is one of the places employees can begin learning how our retail operation works.
You'll gain experience with customer intake, identification and compliance, online ordering, cannabis products, customer communication and the interaction between Front Desk, budtenders and store leadership.
Employees who become proficient in Front Desk and demonstrate reliability and good judgment may have opportunities to learn additional responsibilities or pursue other positions as openings become available.
A retail progression can include:
Front Desk Associate → Budtender → Lead Budtender → Assistant Store Manager → Store Manager
Advancement isn't guaranteed based on tenure. The objective is to develop the skills necessary for the next position and demonstrate that you're ready to take on those responsibilities.
