Facilities Internship – Asset Management & Operations

Location: Lansing, MI

Type: Onsite

Internship Duration: Mid-May - End of August Only

Education Requirement: Candidates must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university, actively pursuing an undergraduate (associate’s or bachelor’s) or graduate (master’s or doctoral) degree in a relevant field of study

This is more than just an internship. It’s an opportunity to make a real impact.

At Neogen, we believe in developing the next generation of innovative thinkers, problem-solvers, and industry leaders. Our internship program offers meaningful, hands-on experience where you'll have the opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge, collaborate with experienced professionals, and contribute to projects that support our global operations.

The Opportunity

As a Facilities Intern – Asset Management & Operations, you'll gain valuable, real-world experience in facilities management, equipment reliability, and digital asset management while supporting a high-impact initiative alongside Neogen's Facilities Leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to help transform how critical facility equipment and maintenance information is organized, accessed, and managed. You'll play an active role in developing a comprehensive digital asset management system for Building #1 using Eptura, Neogen's computerized maintenance management system (CMMS). From organizing equipment records and digitizing technical documentation to developing preventive maintenance plans, your contributions will help improve operational efficiency, strengthen equipment reliability, and establish standards that could be implemented across multiple Neogen locations.

What You'll Do

  • Transform Asset Management: Partner with Facilities Leadership to review, organize, and standardize equipment hierarchies in Eptura, creating a clear and consistent structure for facility assets.
  • Bring Technical Documentation into the Digital World: Organize, index, and digitize equipment manuals, engineering drawings, schematics, and other critical technical documents for convenient access.
  • Build Comprehensive Equipment Profiles: Develop detailed digital records for HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and utility systems, incorporating manufacturer specifications and equipment information.
  • Support Preventive Maintenance Excellence: Translate original equipment manufacturer (OEM) guidelines into clear, step-by-step preventive maintenance (PM) checklists and digital work plans.
  • Improve Spare Parts Accessibility: Develop equipment-specific Bills of Materials (BOMs) within Eptura to support maintenance planning, inventory visibility, and equipment servicing.
  • Connect Critical Information: Link technical manuals, drawings, maintenance procedures, and spare parts information directly to equipment records for easy access from mobile devices and desktops.
  • Drive Process Standardization: Help establish consistent asset documentation and data-entry procedures that improve accuracy, efficiency, and long-term system reliability.
  • Support Cross-Facility Collaboration: Work with Facilities Leadership to develop standardized processes and onboarding templates that could support future implementation across other Neogen locations.
  • Measure and Communicate Progress: Track project milestones, monitor completion metrics, and share updates and recommendations with the Facilities Leadership team.

What You'll Gain

At Neogen, we believe the best learning happens through experience. Throughout your internship, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Gain hands-on experience with Eptura, a computerized maintenance management system used to organize equipment assets, preventive maintenance programs, and spare parts information.
  • Develop a practical understanding of facilities operations, asset management, and equipment reliability.
  • Strengthen your ability to interpret engineering drawings, industrial operation and maintenance (O&M) manuals, schematics, and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Learn how preventive maintenance programs are developed using manufacturer recommendations and industry practices.
  • Gain exposure to enterprise-level facilities strategies and collaboration across multiple Neogen locations.
  • Build technical documentation, database management, and process improvement skills.
  • Work alongside experienced Facilities professionals and gain insight into how effective maintenance planning supports safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
  • Develop confidence in project ownership, problem-solving, and communicating results to leadership.

Your Final Project: At the conclusion of your internship, you'll have the opportunity to present your accomplishments to the Facilities Leadership team, including a live demonstration of the Eptura asset management system, key project metrics, and recommendations for expanding standardized processes across Neogen facilities.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
