The American Indian Studies (AIS) program seeks a collaborative, organized, and proactive Program

Coordinator to support day-to-day operations, continuity, and visibility for AIS academic programs and related activities, including work connected to the Center for Indian Education (CIE), which is housed within AIS. Reporting to the Special Projects Manager, the Program Coordinator works closely with AIS staff and AIS leadership to support recurring program and center operations, course scheduling, event logistics, routine communications, records management, and administrative workflows. This hands-on role requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to track multiple recurring processes using university systems and common communication, scheduling, and administrative tools.

Position Salary Range:

  • $55,000 to $60,000; DOE

Essential Duties:

  • Program and Center Coordination - 50%Coordinate day-to-day administrative workflows and general program operations that support AIS academic programs, CIE activities, initiatives, and recurring needs. Coordinate semester-to-semester academic planning, including course scheduling, enrollment monitoring, room assignments, scheduling and course submissions and changes. Support meetings and recurring operational processes, including preparing materials, tracking action items, coordinating follow-up, and preparing routine updates or summaries. Support the use and organization of shared procedures and resources to help maintain consistent workflows and operational continuity.
  • Communications and Outreach Support - 30%Coordinate routine communications, across digital and print platforms, including social media posts, newsletters, website content updates, and event materials. Develop clear, accurate, accessible, and audience-centered content for AIS and CIE programs, events, opportunities, outreach, community and student engagement activities. Support outreach activities including recruitment events, information sessions, campus and community outreach and partner engagement.
  • Events and General Program Support - 20%Coordinate logistics for AIS and CIE events and other engagement programs and activities, including information sessions, workshops, meetings, conference, student and community-facing activities. Arrange event support such as room reservations, schedules, invitations, registration, accessibility needs, materials, staffing coordination, and post-event follow-up. Provide coordination support for AIS and CIE special projects as assigned by the Special Projects Manager, including scheduling, documentation, communications, logistics, and follow-up.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a supervisor or project lead while coordinating details, tracking deadlines, communicating updates, and following assigned work through completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with staff, students, university offices, internal and external partners, and constituencies, including Indigenous communities or audiences.
  • Experience supporting academic programs, center operations, program administration, or higher education operations.
  • Experience coordinating administrative processes, meetings, events, or program activities involving timelines, recurring deadlines, and collaboration across staff, students, partners, or university offices.
  • Evidence of strong organizational and workflow-management skills, including the ability to track tasks, maintain accurate records, manage calendars, adapt to changing priorities, and follow activities through completion.
  • Experience drafting, editing, proofreading, or coordinating clear, accurate, accessible, and audience-centered communications, including outreach, social media posts, newsletters, or print and digital materials.
  • Experience using common communication, scheduling, and administrative tools, with demonstrated ability to learn new platforms and systems; familiarity with Canva, Salesforce or comparable CRM tools, websites, newsletters, or social media platforms is helpful.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate-controlled office setting.
  • Regular use of standard office equipment, including a computer, keyboard, and phone.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend work in support of AIS and CIE programs and events.

The American Indian Studies (AIS) program at Arizona State University advances Indigenous education through academic programs, teaching, scholarship, student engagement, and relationships with Indigenous communities. AIS offers undergraduate and graduate programs and courses that center Indigenous perspectives, sovereignty, self-determination, and community-engaged approaches to teaching and learning. The Center for Indian Education (CIE), housed within AIS, supports scholarship, leadership development, community-driven partnerships, and public engagement in Indigenous education. Through its academic programs, center activities, staff expertise, and partnerships, AIS supports student success and contributes to the advancement of American Indian and Indigenous Studies at ASU and beyond.
