Job Description:

Salary Range: $51,500 - $58,000 per year; DOE

The Senior Academic Success Coordinator for Advising Communications is part of the Office of Academic and Career Success within the Mary Lou Fulton College for Teaching and Learning Innovation. The department supports students throughout their academic journey, bringing together advising, student success, career and workforce preparation, and other services to create a connected student experience. This position supports undergraduate and graduate students pursuing programs that lead to teacher certification, across both online and in-person learning environments. The Senior Coordinator has a unique opportunity to shape how students experience their programs by ensuring they receive the right information, at the right time, with clear next steps as they move from enrollment through academic progression, field experiences, student teaching, certification readiness, and graduation.

Serving as the communications lead for the Teacher Preparation Superteam, this highly collaborative role brings together advising leaders, placement experience navigators, Career and Workforce Systems, Student Success Systems, faculty, and other college partners to coordinate student-facing outreach. The Senior Coordinator builds relationships across these teams, connects work that might otherwise happen independently, and helps create a seamless and consistent experience for students.

The position develops and manages advising communication plans, workflows, and calendars; leads targeted outreach campaigns; and coordinates communications around key student milestones, requirements, and deadlines. Using student data, feedback, and communication trends, the Senior Coordinator identifies opportunities to strengthen outreach, improve student engagement, and reduce communication gaps, duplication, and confusion. The Senior Coordinator also maintains academic advising responsibilities, allowing them to stay closely connected to the student experience and use what they learn directly from students to strengthen communication strategies and processes.

The successful candidate will be a strong relationship builder who enjoys working across teams, can bring people and ideas together, and is comfortable leading projects through collaboration and influence. This position requires excellent written communication, project coordination, organization, sound judgment, and the ability to move complex work forward in a highly collaborative environment without formal supervisory authority.

Essential Duties:

  • Provide academic advising to students pursuing teacher certification, including academic planning, program progression, certification readiness, and navigation of university policies and resources.
  • Support students across online and in-person programs, providing individualized guidance and helping students identify and navigate barriers to academic progress and success.
  • Use direct advising experience, student questions, and emerging trends to identify opportunities to improve communications, outreach, and the overall student experience.
  • Lead the planning and coordination of advising communications for undergraduate and graduate Teacher Preparation students across key points in the student journey.
  • Develop and maintain communication plans, calendars, workflows, templates, and resources to support timely, accurate, and coordinated student outreach.
  • Collaborate closely with advising leaders, Placement Experience Navigators, Career and Workforce Systems, Student Success Systems, faculty, and other college partners to align student-facing communications and outreach.
  • Coordinate communications related to academic advising, registration, program progression, placements and field experiences, student teaching, certification readiness, career preparation, student support, and other key milestones and deadlines.
  • Lead targeted and proactive outreach campaigns for specific student populations based on academic milestones, student needs, enrollment or progression status, and other identified priorities.
  • Lead cross-functional communication projects by bringing partners together, establishing timelines and responsibilities, coordinating deliverables, and ensuring appropriate follow-through.
  • Identify communication gaps, duplication, conflicting information, and recurring areas of student confusion and work collaboratively with appropriate partners to develop solutions.
  • Use student data, feedback, engagement trends, and communication outcomes to evaluate outreach efforts and recommend improvements to messaging, timing, audience segmentation, and communication strategies.
  • Translate complex academic, advising, placement, and university information into clear, accessible, student-centered communications with actionable next steps.
  • Maintain strong collaborative relationships across the Office of Academic and Career Success and the college and contribute to shared efforts to create a seamless and coordinated experience for Teacher Preparation students.
  • Communicate emerging student needs, communication challenges, and opportunities for improvement to appropriate leaders and partners.
  • Participate in Teacher Preparation Superteam initiatives, projects, meetings, and continuous improvement efforts in support of student persistence, progression, engagement, and completion.
  • Collaborate with marketing and communications team on ensuring external student-facing information is accurate, current, accessible, and aligned with advising and placement practices.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience providing academic advising, student success, or student services support in a higher education environment.
  • Experience supporting undergraduate and graduate student populations.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop clear, accurate, and student-centered written communications for audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and work effectively across teams, departments, and functional areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects and responsibilities while meeting deadlines.
  • Experience using student data, feedback, or engagement trends to inform outreach, communication, or student success strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate complex policies, processes, or requirements into clear and actionable information.
  • Experience identifying process or communication gaps and collaborating with others to develop and implement solutions.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience working in a collaborative or matrixed organizational environment where success requires influencing and coordinating work without formal supervisory authority.
  • Experience with student information, CRM, communication, or advising systems such as PeopleSoft, Salesforce, Marketing Cloud, or similar platforms.

Working Environment:

  • Activities are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting and involve extended periods of sitting, keyboarding, and use of a computer mouse.
  • Position may require travel between campus locations or buildings for meetings or job-related tasks.
  • Regular activities require the ability to manage and adjust to changing priorities, including handling time-sensitive tasks and resolving conflicts.
  • MLFC supports flexible work options for certain positions, such as alternate work schedules and hybrid remote arrangements, subject to approvals per ASU policy.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
