About the role
We’re building a community of freelance producer/directors to draw on as new series go into production. Concepts come from our team. Your job is to build from that foundation and bring the show to life.
You develop the scripts, cast the talent, organize the logistics, lead the crew, direct on set, and drive the edit until a fully realized series of episodes is ready to post. It’s a highly collaborative role, with frequent touchpoints and real input at every stage. You thrive with creative guardrails, not despite them.
Each show you produce sits under the Executive Producer, Studios, with a Showrunner and a show team around it. The Studio Director keeps your calendar and deliverables in step with the rest of the slate, and the Chief Creative Officer reviews the work at key creative milestones. This is an evergreen posting. We review submissions on an ongoing basis and reach out when a project matches your profile.
What you’ll do
Development
- Refine incoming concepts into producible, platform-native series with a clear creative vision and structure
- Lead scripting and story development, from outlines and run-of-show documents to episode-level scripts or frameworks
- Cast on-camera talent for short-form social, where charisma, credibility, and audience fit matter as much as credentials
Production
- Build and lead crews scaled to the format and budget, staffing with the Executive Producer and Showrunner from our shared talent pool
- Organize every piece of logistics, from scheduling, locations, permits, and production planning to the shoot day itself
- Set and hold production calendars and deliverables with the Studio Director
- Direct on set with a clear point of view, while adapting to real-world conditions
Post and delivery
- Lead post-production by guiding the edit, giving clear and actionable notes, and driving the cut to lock
- Deliver finished episodes ready to post, formatted, captioned, and optimized for each platform
- Bring work to creative reviews with the Showrunner and Chief Creative Officer at key milestones
- Join the post-mortem after each release, so what worked and what didn’t shapes the next show
- Join client conversations when a project calls for it, explaining the creative process with clarity and confidence
Launch and growth
- Support each show’s launch plan with the Chief Marketing Officer, delivering the trailers, cutdowns, and assets it needs
- Help shape the show’s branding, from title and look to the tone of its promotion
- Capture promotional material on set, including behind-the-scenes footage, stills, and short clips for social
- Work with the Director, Audience Growth to read performance after release, and troubleshoot what isn’t landing, such as hooks, thumbnails, length, posting times, and format
- Adjust upcoming episodes based on what the data and the algorithm are telling us
What you bring
5+ years producing and directing high-visibility original series or viral content for Instagram, TikTok, or YouTube
- Comfort owning the full production pipeline with minimal hand-holding. You know what needs to happen, and you make it happen
- Strong instincts for short-form storytelling, including pacing, structure, hooks, and what keeps an audience watching
- Experience building and leading lean crews and managing production logistics end to end
- A working understanding of how platform algorithms reward content, and experience adjusting a series based on performance data
- Experience making content for working-class, non-coastal, or underserved audiences
- An editorial eye, so you can direct an edit, not just review one
- The ability to move quickly without sacrificing quality
- Experience making content for working-class, non-coastal, or underserved audiences (a plus)
- Familiarity with client-facing production environments (a plus)
- Experience across several platforms or formats at once (a plus)
Who you are
- You’re collaborative by default and light on ego
- You take feedback well and use it without losing your point of view
- You do your best work inside clear creative guardrails
- You know what keeps an audience watching, and you build every episode around it
- You’re tapped into internet culture, and you know what’s working on each platform right now
- You move fast without cutting corners, and you want your work to reach the audiences most media ignores
Compensation
The pay range is $6,000–$10,000 per month and is set by working days and experience. This is a freelance role, paid project by project at rates competitive with the market for comparable freelance production work. The role is remote, with a strong preference for candidates based in New York, Toronto, or Los Angeles, and the option to work from our New York office.
How to apply
Send a reel or links to two or three series you’ve produced or directed, your typical rate, and where you’re based. We’ll reach out when a project fits.
