Position: Senior Automation Developer

Location: Oporto - Hybrid

Job Summary: We are looking for a Network Security Automation Engineer responsible for designing and developing automation workflows for firewall management using Python and Django. The role involves integrating APIs with security platforms, automating firewall rule requests and provisioning, implementing validation and rollback mechanisms, developing automated tests, ensuring compliance with security policies, and maintaining clear technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design & Develop Automation Workflows: Build and optimize end-to-end Python/Django workflows that automate the request, validation, approval, and provisioning of firewall rules on Fortigate and NSX-T;
  • API Integration: Develop and maintain robust API connectors to seamlessly orchestrate changes across FortiManager/FortiOS and NSX-T Managers;
  • Failure Recovery & Dry-Run Logic: Implement pre-change validation (syntax, conflict detection) and safe rollback mechanisms (idempotency) to ensure zero-disruption to production traffic;
  • Testing & Security Compliance: Write comprehensive unit/integration tests for the automation codebase and ensure all generated firewall rules adhere strictly to internal security policies and compliance standards;
  • Knowledge Transfer: Document code, API contracts, and workflow designs to ensure seamless handoff to internal NetSecOps teams.

Requirements:

  • Strong dual background in Software Engineering (Python/Django + REST API) and Enterprise Network Security (Fortinet & VMware NSX-T);

Software Development:

  • Advanced Python 3 and Django framework (or REST Framework) for building robust, scalable APIs and automation backends;
  • Experience with asynchronous task queues (e.g., Celery / Redis) for handling long-running network operations;
  • CI/CD pipelines (Git, GitLab CI/GitHub Actions) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles.

Network Security & Infrastructure:

  • Deep understanding of Fortigate (FortiOS) and VMware NSX-T architectures;
  • Hands-on experience automating firewall policies, address objects, and security groups via FortiManager API (JSON-RPC/REST) and NSX-T Policy API;
  • Solid grasp of enterprise routing, switching, zoning, and micro-segmentation concepts.
