Accounting Manager

Hybrid | Fremont, CA HQ | Onsite at least 3 days per week

About Nitricity

Nitricity is transforming how fertilizer is produced through innovative technology that makes agriculture cleaner, more sustainable, and more resilient.

Backed by top-tier venture capital investors, Nitricity is entering an exciting new phase of growth as we scale our technology to market.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a proactive, hands-on Accounting Manager to lead our accounting operations. This is an opportunity to take ownership of the monthly close, financial reporting, and day-to-day accounting operations while strengthening internal controls and improving accounting processes. You will also be the primary day-to-day contact for our external auditors.

You'll have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact, drive improvements, and gain exposure to FP&A, treasury, manufacturing finance, and capital projects.

We're looking for someone who enjoys solving problems, takes initiative, and is equally comfortable managing accounting processes and rolling up their sleeves to get things done.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the monthly close: Own the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, account reconciliations, and preparation of accurate and timely financial statements. Manage the close calendar and drive close-cycle improvements, including a shorter timeline, standardized reconciliation templates, and automation.
  • Oversee accounting operations: Manage AP, AR, cash transactions, and general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely processing. Own the chart of accounts, GL hygiene, and balance sheet integrity.
  • Strengthen financial reporting: Prepare and review financial statements, analyze budget-to-actual variances, and provide meaningful insights to finance leadership.
  • Own technical accounting: Research and document accounting positions for revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), stock-based compensation (ASC 718), and inventory, and prepare clear memos for finance leadership and auditors.
  • Build manufacturing accounting capabilities: Partner with Operations and Engineering to establish and improve cost accounting, inventory, capital expenditure, and project cost tracking processes.
  • Support financial planning: Assist with budgeting, cash forecasting, financial analysis, and capital-project reporting.
  • Manage audit and compliance: Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for external auditors, lead year-end financial statement preparation, drive PBC list completion and walkthroughs, partner with tax advisors on the provision and federal, state, and sales/use tax filings, maintain supporting schedules, and ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies.
  • Improve processes and controls: Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, strengthen internal controls, improve systems, and build scalable accounting processes.
  • Collaborate across the business: Coordinate accounting activities and work with internal and external team members to resolve issues and support business initiatives.
  • Lead accounting team: Mentor and coach junior accounting staff.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, or both, including ownership of a company-level month-end close or audit senior/manager-level experience, and experience supervising or reviewing the work of others.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP (including ASC 606, ASC 842, and ASC 718), financial reporting, and general ledger accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience owning a company-level month-end close end-to-end, account reconciliations, and financial reporting.
  • Experience serving as a primary day-to-day contact for external auditors.
  • Strong Excel skills and experience with accounting or ERP systems.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize competing deadlines, and proactively resolve accounting issues.
  • Resourceful problem-solver who takes ownership, asks questions, and follows through.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively across teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active CPA license with Big 4 or national public accounting firm experience.
  • Experience with cost accounting, inventory, or manufacturing operations.
  • Experience improving accounting processes, strengthening internal controls, or implementing accounting systems.
  • Experience at a venture-backed, hardtech, or manufacturing company during a scale-up phase.

Why Join Nitricity?

  • Meaningful ownership and impact: Take ownership of key accounting functions and help shape how the finance organization operates as the company grows.
  • Broad exposure: Gain experience across accounting, FP&A, treasury, and manufacturing finance.
  • Career development: Expand your leadership capabilities, deepen your technical expertise, and take on increasing responsibility as the company scales.

This is a hybrid role based at our headquarters in Fremont, CA. You will work onsite at least 3 days per week. Nitricity does not provide visa sponsorship for this role, so candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
