Job Description

About the Role

We are looking for an Applications Engineer to join our Fluid Motion Solutions business in Manchester. In this customer-facing role, you will act as a key link between customers, internal sales and engineering teams, helping translate technical requirements into effective pumping solutions.

You will review customer enquiries, select suitable pumps and associated equipment, and prepare accurate technical and commercial quotations. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will balance technical accuracy with responsive customer service, ensuring enquiries are handled efficiently and solutions meet application requirements.

About the Team

You'll join an experienced, supportive team of Applications Engineers working closely with customers and distributors across the UK and Europe. The team values open communication, knowledge sharing and collaboration, creating an environment where colleagues can learn from one another and solve technical challenges together.

Why Join NOV?

At NOV, you'll have the opportunity to develop your technical expertise while gaining exposure to a wide range of industrial pumping applications and customer requirements.

You'll benefit from hands-on training, initial support from an experienced colleague and opportunities to learn from specialists across the team. As your knowledge develops, you'll be able to broaden your product expertise and explore potential career paths within technical engineering and commercial functions, depending on business opportunities.

The role is based in Manchester, with an initial on-site training period and the possibility of hybrid working, including up to two days working from home per week following successful completion of probation.

We welcome applications from all qualified candidates regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or any other characteristic protected by applicable law.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate technical and commercial quotations using internal systems, ensuring timely responses to customer enquiries.
  • Manage pumping applications throughout the enquiry, quotation, order and delivery process.
  • Communicate directly with customers and distributors, providing technical guidance, responding to queries and maintaining updates on order progress.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Design, Sales, Operations and Supply Chain teams to ensure proposed solutions meet customer requirements.
  • Prepare, review and maintain technical documentation, including product datasheets, specifications and customer submissions.
  • Support the identification of additional product and service opportunities that provide value to customers.
  • Manage multiple enquiries and competing priorities while maintaining high standards of accuracy, responsiveness and customer service.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an Applications Engineer, Technical Sales Engineer, Sales Support Engineer or similar technical/customer-facing role.
  • Knowledge of industrial pumps, particularly progressive cavity (PC) pumps, pumping systems or fluid handling equipment.
  • Experience preparing technical quotations, reviewing requests for quotation or supporting tender processes.
  • Familiarity with technical drawings, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), product datasheets or equipment selection tools.
  • Understanding of electrical systems associated with pumping applications, including motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs) and control systems.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
