Job Description

As a Maintenance Engineer at NOV APL, you will play an important role in maintaining and refurbishing our core products used in offshore operations.

Working primarily at our local Service Center, you will combine practical mechanical work with technical inspection, reporting, documentation and coordination of refurbishment activities. You will follow components through the service process, from initial inspection and repair recommendations to refurbishment, testing and final delivery.

You will work closely with experienced Service Engineers, After Sales colleagues and our engineering team, gaining detailed knowledge of APL products and their applications.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hands-on inspection, maintenance and refurbishment of APL mechanical components and equipment.
  • Assess the condition of returned components, document inspection findings and prepare detailed technical reports with repair recommendations.
  • Coordinate refurbishment activities, including planning, material requirements, supplier follow-up and quality control.
  • Support fabrication, inspection, non-destructive testing (NDT), surface treatment and assembly activities.
  • Prepare and coordinate functional testing and Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), including participation from customers and third-party inspectors when required.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, including inspection reports, drawings, certificates and refurbishment records.
  • Collaborate with engineering colleagues to identify and implement necessary drawing revisions and technical updates.
  • Communicate with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders to ensure refurbishment activities meet agreed technical, quality and delivery requirements.

Qualifications

What You'll Bring

  • A vocational qualification in mechanical trades or a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline.
  • Practical mechanical knowledge and the ability to inspect, troubleshoot and work directly with mechanical components.
  • Ability to prepare clear, accurate technical reports and communicate inspection findings and recommendations.
  • A structured and analytical approach to technical problem-solving, documentation and task coordination.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work across technical disciplines.
  • Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

Additional Experience That Would Be Valuable

  • Previous experience in mechanical maintenance, refurbishment, technical service or after-sales operations.
  • Experience coordinating technical activities, suppliers or service projects.
  • Familiarity with technical drawings and CAD software such as AutoCAD or Autodesk Inventor.
  • Experience with mechanical equipment used in offshore, marine or other industrial applications.
  • Norwegian language proficiency, particularly the ability to understand technical discussions and participate in team communication.

What we offer

  • A varied technical role: Combine hands-on mechanical work with engineering-related tasks, technical documentation and project coordination.
  • Exposure to specialized offshore technology: Work with APL equipment and components used in offshore operations.
  • Knowledge sharing and technical development: Learn from experienced colleagues with extensive product knowledge and practical expertise.
  • A collaborative working environment: Work alongside colleagues from After Sales, Service Engineering and other technical disciplines.
  • A stable, locally based position: Work primarily at our Service Center in Arendal, with limited travel requirements.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
