The posting

Remote | EU/EEA or UK | Crypto & Payments | EMI Accounting | Full-time

Our client is an established, profitable fintech operating at the intersection of crypto and traditional payments. It runs a consumer on/off-ramp platform and a fast-growing B2B infrastructure business: APIs and white-label solutions that let exchanges, neobanks, PSPs, wallets and other platforms embed regulated crypto and fiat services. The company is authorised under MiCA and PSD2 in the EU and is now expanding its fiat business through new e-money licences in the EU and the UK. The culture is high-ownership and low-bureaucracy, with fast decisions and no micromanagement.

About the role

This is a senior, hands-on accounting role with a clear mandate: own the books of the company’s fiat entities, from licence to steady state. You will take end-to-end ownership of four entities: two e-money institutions in the EU and the UK that are in the licensing pipeline, plus fiat entities in the US and Canada.

For the new EMIs, the first months are about building accounting properly from an empty ledger. Safeguarding and prudential requirements apply from the first day of trading, and volumes ramp quickly once licences land. If you want to set up EMI accounting from scratch rather than run a finished process, this role is built for you.

You will report to the Accounting and Financial Reporting Lead and work as an individual contributor within a small accounting team. Each accountant owns specific legal entities end to end, and responsibilities do not overlap.

What you will own

- Entity accounting: day-to-day accounting for four fiat entities in Xero (multi-currency), from set-up through steady state.

- New entity set-up: chart of accounts, bank mapping, close calendar and statutory and tax filing calendar for each newly licensed entity.

- EMI accounting and reporting: safeguarding and client-money reconciliations designed with Treasury, inputs for own-funds and capital-adequacy calculations, and EMI regulatory returns to the national regulator and the FCA, end to end.

- Month-end close: for every entity, covering bank reports mapped by counterparty and intercompany, accruals, prepayments, loans, payroll entries and FX revaluation.

- Intercompany: recording and reconciling heavy intercompany flows with Treasury, and supporting transfer pricing documentation.

- Local statutory and tax compliance: EU and UK annual accounts, VAT and statistical reporting, Companies House and HMRC deadlines, and year-end inputs for the US and Canada. You will prepare the data and own the filing calendar, working with external tax advisers.

- Invoice control: checking that supplier invoices meet local tax requirements before payment.

- Audit and group reporting: consolidation inputs, audit schedules and auditor queries for your entities.

- Management accounts: monthly entity-level accounts, analytical review of P&L and balance-sheet movements, and investigation of unusual items before close sign-off.

- Process build: documented close procedures and controls for each new entity, designed to scale after licensing.

What we are looking for

- Hands-on accounting experience for a live EMI in the EU or UK. This includes EMI regulatory returns you owned end to end and safeguarding or client-money reconciliations you ran yourself, not through an outsourced provider.

- Experience producing own-funds or capital-requirement inputs for an EMI.

- 5+ years of in-house accounting with independent general ledger ownership and month-end close.

- Strong IFRS (UK GAAP / FRS 102 accepted) and a working understanding of US GAAP simplifications. You can analyse new transactions, decide the accounting treatment and document your position.

- Multi-entity, multi-currency accounting, including intercompany reconciliation, FX revaluation and group consolidation (eliminations, foreign-currency translation).

- Strong balance-sheet ownership: account reconciliations, ageing analysis, investigation of unreconciled items and balance substantiation.

- Experience reconciling high-volume payment data to bank accounts and the general ledger.

- A fintech or payments background.

- A builder mindset: comfortable setting up processes from scratch rather than expecting them to be in place.

- Fluent English.

- Existing right to work and residence in the EU/EEA or the UK.

Nice to have

- Latvian statutory and tax knowledge (VAT, statistical reports, benefits in kind) or Latvian language.

- Experience setting up accounting for a newly licensed EMI or PI.

- Experience running a multi-country filing calendar with external tax advisers.

- Xero, plus ERP or reconciliation tooling.

- Exposure to crypto or to international groups with heavy intercompany flows.

- Big 4 or audit background.

What’s on offer

- End-to-end ownership of four entities, including building EMI accounting from day one.

- A fully remote setup, with a flat structure, fast decisions and trust-based ways of working.

- 20 paid working days of annual leave, paid sick leave and health insurance.

- Professional development opportunities, team events and an English course.

- A fast, transparent hiring process.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
