Rapiscan Systems has installed over 70,000 products in more than 100 countries. Our systems are in use at airports, government and corporate buildings, postal facilities, military zones, seaports, and border crossings. Our science and technology team is looking for an AI Software Engineer to support the deployment and development of AI technologies. This individual will support a team of AI researchers and engineers that develop new detection techniques for explosives, narcotics, weapon, and contraband in air/sea cargo and passenger baggage in aviation screening applications.

This hybrid role provides a balance of onsite teamwork in Torrance, CA, and remote work flexibility through a combination of in-office and telecommuting arrangements.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and test software for automated detection algorithms for a range of inspection modalities including single and multi-energy, multi-view x-ray transmission, x-ray backscatter, x-ray computed tomography, metal detectors, and others as the need arises.
  • Develop and maintain algorithm APIs.
  • Transition AI algorithms from experimental stages to released products.
  • Port legacy AI frameworks onto new compute platforms.
  • Support development of tools for data labeling, data analytics, and automated testing.
  • Work independently to turn general requirement definitions into functioning software.
  • Share knowledge and expertise across the algorithm development team and provide mentorship and technical support to junior members on the team.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other development team members and comply with Rapiscan Systems' internal software development processes and procedures.
  • Responsible for delivering fully functional software per schedule as agreed upon during project's planning phase.

  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or closely related field required.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Strong in Python and C++ software development on Windows and Linux required.
  • Experience collaborating with science, regulatory, quality, or cybersecurity teams desired.
  • Experience deploying deep learning frameworks such as TensorFlow and PyTorch, image processing development toolkits (e.g., OpenCV, MATLAB) and open-source libraries desired.
  • Experience in signal processing, image analysis and target recognition for security, medical applications, or related field preferred.
  • Experience with source control (Git) preferred.
  • Experience with Docker preferred.
  • Experience with UI development in python preferred.
  • Self-motivation and enthusiasm for problem solving.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Selected candidate must be able to successfully pass an in-depth federal background check in order to obtain and maintain access to Sensitive Security Information (SSI).

Pay may range from $120,000 to $160,000 annually.

The specific programs and options available to any given employee may vary depending on eligibility factors such as geographic location and date of hire. Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

Base salary is one component of your total rewards package. You may be eligible for long-term incentives, potential discretionary bonuses, and the ability to purchase company stock at a discounted rate through the Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP). OSI also offers comprehensive benefits including various options for health plans, access to 401(k) retirement plan, health savings account, disability insurance, life insurance, AD&D insurance, leave of absence programs and an array of voluntary benefits. In addition, paid time off is offered to be used for vacation, holidays, bereavement, and jury duty. Full-Time salaried employees are entitled to flexible time-off.
