  • Web Development & UX/UI Expertise Minimum 2.5-5 years of experience in website design, development, and management, with proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and CMS platforms like WordPress, Shopify, or custom-built solutions.
  • Experience with Booking & E-Commerce Systems Strong understanding of integrating travel booking APIs, restaurant reservation tools, and online stores to create a multi-functional platform.
  • SEO & Monetization Knowledge Expertise in SEO strategies, Google Analytics, affiliate marketing, and ad placement to drive engagement and revenue.
  • Cultural & Historical Awareness Deep understanding of African American history, soul food traditions, and their influence on American cuisine to ensure authenticity and historical accuracy throughout the site.
  • American English Proficiency Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong grammar and language nuances to maintain professional, culturally relevant content.
  • Attention to Detail & Problem-Solving Ability to troubleshoot technical issues, refine existing website elements, and continuously improve functionality based on analytics and user feedback.

Core responsibilities:

  • Website Development & Platform Enhancement Design, update, and maintain a fully functional, visually engaging site that allows users to locate soul food restaurants across the U.S., similar to EatOkra.com, while incorporating travel, dining, and event booking functionalities.
  • Integration of Travel & Hospitality Features Implement and optimize features that allow users to book flights, reserve restaurants, and purchase concert tickets, ensuring a seamless user experience across all platforms.
  • E-Commerce & Monetization Strategy Develop an online store to sell products, including jackets, knives, mugs, BBQ sauces, rubs, smokers, aprons, and more, integrating secure payment gateways and user-friendly navigation.
  • SEO & Digital Growth Optimization Execute SEO best practices to drive organic traffic and enhance search rankings while setting up affiliate marketing integrations to maximize monetization opportunities.
  • Cultural & Historical Representation Ensure the website authentically represents African American culinary history and showcases the impact of soul food on American cuisine through storytelling, restaurant highlights, and chef spotlights.
  • User Experience & Mobile Optimization Develop a responsive, mobile-friendly website that is easy to navigate, visually appealing, and optimized for all devices to enhance accessibility for a diverse audience.
