Job Description:

Located in the heart of San Antonio, Pape-Dawson’s corporate headquarters brings together teams from across the company to support work that shapes communities throughout Texas and beyond. Since 1965, our headquarters team has helped deliver projects that people know and use every day—from iconic destinations and vibrant master-planned communities to the transportation and water infrastructure that keeps the region moving. Join a collaborative team with deep local roots and the reach to make a lasting impact.

Our San Antonio Land Development team is looking to bring on a Designer I. The Designer provides advanced design and drafting support for engineering land development projects. This role works with minimal oversight to prepare detailed construction documents, exhibits, and technical graphics in compliance with company standards and applicable agency requirements. The Designer supports engineers and project managers in project delivery through advanced CAD production, coordination, and technical documentation, while ensuring accuracy, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop site layouts and construction plans for grading, drainage, and utility systems.
  • Produce detailed site design exhibits and supporting documentation for development projects.
  • Coordinate design elements to support permitting and construction documentation.
  • Prepare and revise engineering design documents and technical drawings using applicable CAD platforms (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D) in support of project deliverables.
  • Translate engineer direction, markups, and sketches into accurate and complete design documentation with minimal supervision.
  • Apply company CAD standards to ensure consistency in layers, symbols, line styles, and sheet organization across all deliverables.
  • Perform quality control checks and incorporate applicable agency standards, guidelines, and checklists to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Coordinate with engineers, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to resolve design issues and maintain project schedules.
  • Support preparation of technical documentation, reports, and exhibits as needed.
  • Maintain organized project files and documentation to support collaboration and efficient project execution.

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or certificate in Computer-Aided Drafting/Design, Applied Science, or a related field required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience preparing civil, transportation, traffic, structural, aviation, H&H, and/or utility design documents.
  • Advanced proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D)
  • Strong knowledge of applicable design standards, processes, and documentation requirements.
  • Strong attention to detail with a proven record of producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing assignments and project priorities.
  • Ability to work Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with overtime as needed.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
