The posting

Job Description:

As Pape-Dawson’s headquarters, our San Antonio office is where the company’s legacy and future come together. Since 1965, our team has helped shape the region through iconic destinations, thriving master-planned communities, and the infrastructure that supports everyday life. Today, our multidisciplinary professionals continue to deliver meaningful work across transportation, water, wastewater, and drainage—making a lasting impact in the communities we call home.

Our San Antonio HQ office is seeking an Engineer III (EIT III) who will support the planning, design, analysis, and delivery of engineering projects under the guidance of a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) and may provide technical guidance to junior staff. The role applies experience and problem-solving skills to moderately complex assignments while collaborating with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare design deliverables for site development projects, including grading, drainage, and utility layouts.
  • Analyze site constraints and evaluate design alternatives to meet client objectives and jurisdictional requirements.
  • Develop permitting support materials and coordinate responses required for land development approvals.
  • Perform engineering planning, design, and analysis tasks in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations, producing work that requires minimal revision.
  • Prepare engineering calculations and technical deliverables such as memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates, clearly documenting assumptions and design decisions.
  • Evaluate and compare design alternatives, apply sound engineering judgment, and recommend appropriate solutions to support project objectives.
  • Coordinate with project managers, multidisciplinary teams, and external stakeholders to support project delivery, with guidance as appropriate.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers and designers to support team development and quality outcomes.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance practices to support accuracy, consistency, and compliance with standards.
  • Manage assigned tasks independently, meet deadlines, and demonstrate accountability for assigned portions of a project.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 2 years of professional engineering experience performing progressively responsible engineering work.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT/EI) certification
  • Working knowledge of engineering principles, design standards, and applicable codes and regulations relevant to assigned service areas.
  • Ability to apply established engineering practices and exercise sound judgment on moderately complex assignments.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and external agencies.
  • Ability to manage assigned tasks, meet deadlines, and work under general supervision.
  • Willingness to work primarily in an office environment with periodic field work, site visits, meetings, or agency coordination as required.
  • Ability to work Monday – Friday, 8am – 5pm with overtime as needed

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
