The posting

The Senior DevOps Engineer is an experienced individual contributor who advances the organization’s DevOps capabilities beyond build and release automation into modern cloud engineering, platform engineering, reliability engineering, and AI-enabled operations. This role serves as a technical escalation point for DevOps Engineers, designs repeatable and secure automation patterns, improves developer experience through self-service platforms, and partners with application, infrastructure, security, and operations teams to improve delivery speed, reliability, scalability, and operational maturity across non-production and production environments. Essential Functions:

Serve as the senior technical escalation point for DevOps Engineers and project teams by mentoring on advanced automation, cloud platform design, deployment reliability, observability, and operational best practices. Lead root cause analysis for complex environment, deployment, infrastructure, performance, and reliability issues; communicate business impact, mitigation plans, and long-term corrective actions to management and stakeholders. Design, implement, and maintain modern CI/CD pipelines that support secure, repeatable, and observable delivery across application, infrastructure, database, and configuration changes. Engineer Infrastructure as Code and automation solutions using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, PowerShell, Python, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar technologies to provision, configure, and manage cloud and hybrid environments. Contribute to cloud engineering initiatives by designing scalable, secure, and cost-aware solutions across compute, storage, networking, identity, monitoring, and backup/recovery services. Advance platform engineering practices by building reusable templates, deployment patterns, self-service workflows, shared tooling, and documentation that reduce developer friction and standardize delivery across teams. Apply Site Reliability Engineering practices including service-level indicators, service-level objectives, error budgets, incident response, post-incident reviews, capacity planning, and toil reduction. Improve observability across systems by implementing and maintaining logging, metrics, tracing, dashboards, alerting, and telemetry that support faster detection, diagnosis, and recovery. Partner with development, infrastructure, database, security, and service desk teams to design resilient deployment and operational patterns for cloud, on-premises, hybrid, and enterprise application environments. Develop automation that improves environment provisioning, refreshes, patching, release readiness, configuration consistency, service account management, and test data management. Integrate security and compliance controls into delivery pipelines, automation frameworks, and platform services, including secrets management, identity and access controls, vulnerability checks, policy enforcement, and audit readiness. Use AI-enabled engineering and operations tools responsibly to accelerate troubleshooting, automate repetitive tasks, improve documentation, analyze telemetry, and enhance developer productivity while maintaining data security and human review. Support containerization and cloud-native practices where appropriate, including Docker, Kubernetes, orchestration, artifact management, image scanning, and deployment standardization. Create and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, knowledge base articles, architecture diagrams, and operational standards that enable consistent support and knowledge transfer. Research, evaluate, and recommend modern tools, patterns, and practices that improve software delivery, reliability, cloud operations, developer experience, and operational efficiency. Participate in incident response, release support, and after-hours escalation as needed for critical environment, deployment, or production-impacting issues. Complete all other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

Strong understanding of modern DevOps practices, Agile delivery, release management, infrastructure automation, and operational support models. Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar platforms. Ability to write, troubleshoot, and maintain automation using PowerShell, Python, Bash, SQL, YAML, JSON, or similar scripting and configuration languages. Working knowledge of cloud platforms and services, preferably Microsoft Azure, including compute, storage, networking, identity, security, monitoring, and cost optimization concepts. Experience with Infrastructure as Code and configuration management tools such as Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, Ansible, or equivalent technologies. Understanding of platform engineering principles, including reusable templates, internal developer platforms, self-service workflows, paved-road patterns, and developer experience improvements. Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering practices including observability, incident response, post-incident reviews, reliability targets, capacity planning, and toil reduction. Familiarity with monitoring, logging, tracing, and alerting tools such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Log Analytics, Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry, Splunk, LogicMonitor, or similar solutions. Working knowledge of containers, orchestration, artifact repositories, deployment packaging, and cloud-native application patterns. Understanding of DevSecOps practices, including secure pipeline design, secrets management, identity and access controls, vulnerability scanning, and compliance automation. Ability to apply AI-assisted tools for engineering, operations, documentation, and troubleshooting while maintaining appropriate security, validation, and governance practices. Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills with the ability to work independently on complex technical initiatives. Demonstrable adaptability and flexibility in a fast-paced work environment. Adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, reliability, and professionalism.

Salary Range: $102,200-$137,000 Qualifications:

5–7 years of progressive experience in DevOps, systems engineering, cloud engineering, platform engineering, infrastructure automation, software delivery, or related information technology roles. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Demonstrated experience designing, supporting, and improving CI/CD pipelines, automation frameworks, cloud or hybrid infrastructure, and operational tooling. Experience working with enterprise applications, databases, middleware, ERP platforms, or business-critical systems in development, test, staging, or production environments. Experience mentoring engineers, leading technical improvements, creating standards, and influencing adoption of modern delivery and reliability practices without direct people-management responsibility. Preferred certifications may include Microsoft Azure Administrator, Azure DevOps Engineer Expert, Azure Solutions Architect, HashiCorp Terraform Associate, Kubernetes, SRE, Agile, DevOps, or related industry certifications. Local to KC metro area.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
