ABOUT THE ROLE

The Senior Product Safety and Compliance Engineer plays a lead technical role within Peloton’s global Technical Product Safety and Regulatory Compliance organization, ensuring connected fitness products meet the highest standards of safety, quality, and regulatory compliance throughout their lifecycle. Based in the Seattle area, this role works in day-to-day partnership with Product Development, Electrical, Mechanical, Software, and Quality engineering teams from early concept through post-launch support. The Senior Engineer brings deep expertise in structured problem-solving, leading complex 8D investigations, and driving preventive, systemic corrective action across the product portfolio to prevent recurrence. Additionally, this role leverages advanced data management and analysis to track trends, proactively surface emerging risks, and execute triage workflows for executive safety escalations. This position reports to the Sr. Director, Technical Product Safety & Regulatory Compliance.

YOUR IMPACT AT PELOTON

  • Lead Safety Investigations: Serve as the senior technical resource for complex product safety investigations, executing 8D methodologies, root-cause analysis, and sustainable CAPA workflows across the portfolio.
  • Executive Escalation & Triage: Partner with cross-functional teams to create, maintain, and execute an expedited triage and response process for executive and member-facing safety escalations.
  • Lifecycle Risk Mitigation: Engage with hardware and software product development teams from early concept through running production changes to identify design constraints and mitigate safety risks.
  • Design & Risk Reviews: Review and approve product construction safety reviews, hazard analyses (FMEA, FTA), and engineering changes prior to release.
  • Data-Driven Analytics: Build and maintain data tools and dashboards (SQL, Tableau) to analyze safety database trends, track compliance metrics, and surface emerging product robustness risks.
  • Global Team Alignment: Partner closely with Taiwan-based engineering teams to ensure consistent safety and compliance standards across regional component and OEM/ODM suppliers.
  • Certification Architecture: Develop formal certification and pre-compliance test plans, serving as the lead technical resource (remote and on-site) for product certifications at third-party test houses (UL, TÜV, Intertek).
  • Standards & SOP Development: Create and update safety design documents, product communications, and new internal SOPs to embed compliance directly into the development workflow.
  • Regulatory Intelligence: Perform continuous research on changing global regulations (CPSC, FCC, chemical, mechanical) and communicate actionable insights to internal stakeholders.
  • Technical Mentorship: Provide guidance, technical direction, and structured problem-solving mentorship across the broader Product Safety and Quality engineering team.

YOU BRING TO PELOTON

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 6+ years of specialized experience in product safety, regulatory compliance, or quality engineering.
  • Problem Solving: Master-level expertise in structured root-cause methodologies (8D, 5-Why, Ishikawa/Fishbone) with a proven record of leading complex technical investigations.
  • Global Certifications: Demonstrated experience driving global product certifications through third-party laboratories like TÜV, Intertek, UL, and CSA.
  • Technical Standards: Deep working knowledge of international mechanical and electrical safety standards (e.g., IEC 60335, IEC 62368-1, ASTM, EN 957/ISO 20957).
  • Data Tools: Strong proficiency using data management and analytics software (Looker, SQL, Excel, Power BI, or Tableau) to interpret field telemetry and track metrics.
  • Risk Methodologies: Thorough understanding of Design for Safety principles, product construction reviews, and hazard analysis tools like FMEA and Fault Tree Analysis.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Strong familiarity with US and international regulatory compliance frameworks, including the CPSC, FCC, wireless/EMC testing, and global chemical regulations.
  • Supplier Engagement: Prior experience working directly with cross-functional development teams, external manufacturers, and component suppliers to implement safety SOPs.
  • Leadership & Communication: Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with a proven ability to present risk assessments to executive leadership.

BONUS POINTS:

  • Advanced Degree: Master's degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Industry Domain Experience: Prior experience within consumer electronics, smart appliances, or connected fitness/hardware products.
  • Mentorship: Experience mentoring or providing technical guidance to junior engineers.
  • Professional Certifications: Quality certifications such as Six Sigma (Green/Black Belt) or ISO 9001 auditor training.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
