The Retail Merchandising Analyst is responsible for driving inventory productivity and supporting the execution of retail merchandising strategies across Peter Millar and G/FORE stores. This role serves as a critical link between Merchandising, Planning, Retail Operations, Distribution, and Customer Service, ensuring the right products are in the right stores at the right time.

Combining merchandising operations, allocation and replenishment, inventory management, reporting, and business analysis, the Retail Merchandising Analyst owns key inventory execution processes while providing the data and insights needed to support informed merchandising decisions. Through effective inventory management, reporting, and cross-functional collaboration, this role helps optimize sales performance, improve inventory efficiency, and enhance the overall customer experience.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Merchandising Operations (Ownership):

  • Own daily replenishment execution for G/Fore retail stores to maximize inventory productivity and in-stock performance.
  • Manage replenishment sales order maintenance and ongoing order accuracy.
  • Execute initial allocations and replenishment strategies based on business needs and inventory availability.
  • Manage shipment priorities through Blue Cherry and Softeon while partnering with Distribution on priority picking and fulfillment.
  • Maintain bulk inventory transfers, retail label conversions, and inventory movement between distribution and stores.
  • Oversee store-to-DC inventory transfers, researching and resolving inventory discrepancies.
  • Conduct routine inventory audits and support inventory accuracy initiatives.
  • Manage Customer Purchase Order Entry for retail stores, including Corporate Embroidery orders and associated communication.
  • Allocation and replenishment analysis, including size/color curve optimization by location.

Data Management & Reporting (Support):

  • Support the preparation, validation, and maintenance of merchandising datasets to ensure reporting accuracy.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance merchandising dashboards that support business performance tracking.
  • Develop calculations, measures, and reporting tools based on evolving business needs.
  • Assist with maintenance of sales, inventory, replenishment, and operational reporting.
  • Maintain the integrity of POS Item Master data, including new style setup, product hierarchies, and attribute management across both brands.

Merchandising Analysis & Assortment Reporting (Support):

  • Provide general ad hoc merchandising analysis to support business decisions, as the business dictates.
  • Assortment analysis support, including customer choice, breadth vs. depth, SKU productivity and rationalization, and store/cluster-level localization.
  • Monitor key retail performance metrics including sell-through, stock-to-sales, inventory productivity, weeks of supply, inventory turnover, and replenishment opportunities.
  • Support in-season business reviews through performance tracking, inventory analysis, and sales trend reporting.
  • Identify risks and opportunities through ongoing inventory and sales analysis while providing recommendations to the merchandising team.
  • Assist with bulk order quantity entry, and assortment execution.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Partner with Merchandising, Planning, Production, Distribution, Retail Operations, and Customer Service to support efficient execution of merchandising initiatives.
  • Respond to inventory and merchandising inquiries from store teams while providing timely operational support.
  • Support continuous process improvements that increase efficiency, reporting accuracy, and inventory productivity.
  • Participate in merchandising projects and operational initiatives as assigned.

COMPETENCIES:

  • Resourceful with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to interpret business performance and adapt to evolving business needs.
  • Ability to translate SKU-level and inventory data into actionable insights that support merchandising decisions.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across cross-functional teams.
  • High sense of urgency, accountability, and ownership.
  • Advanced Excel skills and the ability to work with large datasets and reporting tools.

DESIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Merchandising, Finance, Data Science & Analytics, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in a commercial or other relevant business role. Retail merchandising, planning, allocations, inventory management, or merchandising operations is preferred.
  • Experience with Blue Cherry, KWI, Fulfillit, Softeon, or comparable retail systems is a plus, but not necessary. More important is the ability to quickly gain proficiency in new systems.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel or similar, with experience building reports, performing analysis, and managing large datasets. Python or R for analysis and reporting automation is a plus.
  • Experience with business intelligence and dashboard reporting tools (Power BI, Tableau, or similar) is a plus.
  • AI experience or interest is a plus, with the intent of driving incremental efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze retail KPIs and support merchandising decisions through data.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
