The Opportunity: Postmedia is seeking an Editor-in-Chief for Nova Scotia, reporting to the company's Vice-President of News for Medium and Regional Markets. Key Objectives:
Execute the strategic editorial vision, tone and standards for the Nova Scotia publications, supporting audience growth. Guide and empower a talented group of employees driving engagement within a mission-driven organization. The successful candidate must have a track record of success driving readership and engagement, can collaborate with editors and newsrooms to ensure best practices are adopted and devise content strategies that ensure our brands retain and grow their reputation as crucial community pillars.
What you’ll do:
Oversee all editorial teams across Nova Scotia. These include the Chronicle Herald, serving the Halifax Regional Municipality; the Cape Breton Post; community titles in rural Nova Scotia; and a politics bureau supplying coverage to all publications. Set and maintain high editorial standards, making key decisions on coverage, story treatment and newsroom priorities. Work closely with other regional editors on regional coverage, shared resources and editorial strategy. Work with colleagues across the Postmedia Network to inspire and harness Canadian ambition, building a prosperous future for families and communities through our journalism. Develop staff, build newsroom capability and create opportunities for strong performers to grow. Manage staffing, performance, labour relations and other people-leadership responsibilities.
Who you are:
Minimum five years of experience as an editor, assignment editor, or another senior newsroom leadership role. A demonstrated record of strong editorial judgment, newsroom leadership and decision-making. Comfortable leading people through change and working effectively with other leaders. Expertise in SEO, audience analytics, and optimization for digital content. Experience publishing and managing newsletters and understanding their role in loyalty, retention and conversion.
Compensation: Employment offers presented to the selected candidate are based on a combination of qualifications, experience, responsibilities of the role, and the candidate's location. Base Salary: $102,000 - $122,000
