Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic
Location: Richmond, VA Job Type: Direct Hire Pay: Starting at $23.00/hour, with higher pay available depending on experience Travel: Up to 50%
Job Overview
We are hiring an experienced Heavy Equipment & Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. Candidates must be available 24/7 for emergency repairs and willing to travel as needed.
Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.
- Follow daily work assignments and safety instructions from the Shop Foreman.
- Ensure tools and parts are available to minimize equipment downtime.
- Complete work orders accurately, documenting mileage, operating hours, and repairs.
- Communicate emergency repair needs to the Shop Foreman and prioritize assigned work.
- Maintain an organized work area and equipment.
- Collaborate with the team to complete repairs on schedule and perform other assigned duties.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of heavy equipment, trailer, or crane maintenance experience.
- At least 5 years of experience in two additional technical areas, such as hydraulics, electronics, or small engines.
- High school diploma/GED and trade school or equivalent training in diesel mechanics.
- Two years of technical or vocational training and five years of hands-on repair experience.
- Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair.
- Valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Ability to use computers, communicate effectively, stay organized, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Available 24/7 for emergency assignments and able to travel up to 50%, including out of state.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, and lifting.
- Ability to work extended hours and in varying weather conditions.
- Regularly lift up to 50 lbs; assistance is required for items weighing over 75 lbs.
