Telehandler/Forklift Operator

Location: Cocoa Beach, FL Job Type: Contract-to-Hire Shift: 1st Shift Pay Rate: Starts at $22.00 per hour (Higher rates available depending on experience)

We are currently hiring a Telehandler/Forklift Operator for a structural steel fabrication environment in Cocoa Beach, FL. This is a full-time, first-shift opportunity offering consistent hours and competitive starting pay.

Position Overview

In this role, you will be responsible for handling and moving structural steel materials within a fabrication yard using powered equipment. You’ll support daily operations by ensuring materials are properly staged, organized, and ready for production or shipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate telehandler/forklift to safely move, stage, and load/unload structural steel materials including I-beams, columns, and fabricated components in the yard
  • Organize and maintain yard inventory, ensuring materials are properly staged for fabrication, shipping, and erection schedules
  • Read and interpret shop drawings, pick lists, and material tags to accurately identify and handle steel components
  • Assist with loading trucks, securing loads, and coordinating with drivers and shop personnel to ensure timely deliveries
  • Perform routine equipment inspections, basic maintenance, and report any mechanical or safety issues
  • Maintain a safe work environment by following company policies, proper rigging practices, and OSHA safety standards

Requirements

  • Experience operating telehandlers, forklifts, or similar heavy equipment in a steel yard or construction environment
  • Ability to safely handle large structural steel members (I-beams, plates, columns)
  • Basic blueprint or material tag reading experience preferred
  • Knowledge of rigging, load balancing, and safe material handling practices
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and lift 50+ lbs as needed
  • Strong attention to detail, safety awareness, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment
