Join our team at Waythrough and support people facing challenges around mental health, substance use, housing or domestic abuse. This is more than just a job – it’s a chance to build meaningful relationships and create lasting change.

About the Role

As a Peer Mentor with Aquarius – One Recovery Bucks, you will use your lived experience to encourage, guide and support people accessing our services. You will help create a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where people feel comfortable engaging with recovery-focused activities and building positive connections.

Working alongside staff, you will support groups, activities and workshops, gather feedback from people using our services, and help ensure their voices and experiences influence service development. You will also have opportunities to contribute to community events, awareness campaigns and recruitment activities, promoting the value of lived experience in the delivery of our services.

This is a rewarding volunteering opportunity to make a meaningful difference to others while developing your own skills and gaining experience in a health and social care setting. Full induction, relevant training, regular supervision and ongoing support will be provided.

Key Duties

  • Support and facilitate groups, activities and workshops.
  • Encourage participation, social connection and engagement in recovery-focused activities.
  • Help build positive relationships and strengthen recovery communities.
  • Gather feedback from people accessing our services to support service improvement and development.
  • Represent the views and experiences of people using our services in meetings, forums and networks.
  • Support awareness campaigns, community events and engagement activities.
  • Participate in recruitment processes, including interview panels where appropriate.
  • Promote the voice and value of lived experience within service delivery.
  • Attend training, supervision sessions and regular check-ins.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and work safely within the Peer Mentor role.
  • Work alongside staff to create a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment.

About You

We are looking for a friendly, reliable and understanding individual who is passionate about supporting others and helping people make positive changes in their lives.

You will be able to communicate in a non-judgemental and respectful way, demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality and professional boundaries, and be committed to recognising and valuing diversity. You will have a good level of self-awareness and be willing to act as a positive role model to people accessing our services.

You should be comfortable working as part of a team, using your own initiative where appropriate, and asking for help or guidance whenever you are unsure about a situation.

Lived experience of substance misuse, gambling-related challenges or supporting a family member affected by these issues is desirable, as this role offers an opportunity to use your experiences in a positive and supportive environment.

We ask for a minimum commitment of four hours, with consistency being important to help build positive relationships and provide ongoing support to people accessing our services.

What We Offer

We value the people who make a difference every day. Alongside meaningful work, you’ll enjoy:

  • Discounts from various schemes
  • Training and personal development
  • A chance to make a real difference in people’s lives
  • Free induction and role-specific training
  • Support from experienced staff and regular supervision
  • Opportunities to meet new people and develop your confidence
  • Reimbursement for travel and agreed expenses
  • Valuable experience that can support your personal or career development

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
