Head of Engineering A fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head of Engineering to join a well-established organisation as it expands its commercial software offering. Leading a highly collaborative development team including software engineers, DevOps and product, you will shape engineering strategy, support and develop your team, and help take a new software product through launch and beyond. This role would suit a highly supportive, commercially minded engineering leader who has progressed from a software development background and enjoys bringing together people, technology and product direction. Location: London - initially four days per week in the office, reducing to three days per week. Salary: Negotiable (anticipated £100k - £110k) + comprehensive benefits Requirements for Head of Engineering: Proven experience as a Head of Engineering or in an equivalent senior engineering leadership position Strong software development background, with an understanding of both front-end and back-end engineering Degree educated in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or similar Excellent people management skills, with a supportive, approachable leadership style and the ability to inspire and develop others Experience leading engineering delivery for a commercial software product, balancing customer needs, business priorities and technical considerations Experience contributing to product direction, roadmaps and prioritisation alongside business stakeholders Ability to set engineering strategy and translate this into clear, achievable plans Strong technical judgement, with the ability to guide architectural decisions and support developers with technical challenges Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work with non-technical stakeholders and understand their requirements A collaborative approach, with the confidence to lead change while building trust and maintaining a positive team culture Responsibilities for Head of Engineering: Lead and develop a dev team of 10, working closely with existing team leaders Shape engineering strategy to support both commercial product development and internal business requirements Guide the continued development of a new commercial software product, helping establish its roadmap and support its growth Work with stakeholders to prioritise features and improvements that deliver value to customers and the business Oversee the development of internal applications, dashboards and tools that improve how teams work across the organisation Provide technical direction across software architecture, development practices and delivery Support team development through coaching, clear objectives and constructive feedback Balance product opportunities, internal projects and technical improvements, ensuring realistic priorities and effective use of resources Maintain a collaborative engineering culture with a strong emphasis on quality, communication and shared ownership What the role offers: The opportunity to join an established organisation yet shape a new commercial software product at an early stage and influence its future direction Leadership of an established, collaborative engineering team with excellent staff retention A broad role combining people leadership, engineering strategy and commercial product development within an established business Applications: If you would like to apply for this unique Head of Engineering role, then please send your CV via the relevant links!
