MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Completion of a MASTERS LEVEL Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience:
None
Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
- Licensed as a Physician Assistant OR currently licensed as an APRN in the state of MN and current MN RN license
- Current APP certification as Physician Assistant OR current APRN Specialty Certification
- For PA, must be approved by Minnesota Board of Medical Practice for prescription writing privileges
- Current BLS and ACLS certification
- Current DEA certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to perform as part of a team
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, with peers, students, and other health care personnel
- Ability to work dependently and independently
- Ability to manage multiple simultaneous tasks and prioritizes appropriately
- Ability to navigate an electronic medical record to obtain information and document care

- Independently perform elective and emergent cardioversion procedures with and w/o the presence of implantable cardiac devices and/or device company representatives.
- Familiar with EP lab equipment and EGM interpretation such as micro stim, cardio lab, and 3D mapping programs.
- Temporary pacemaker management and diagnosing/resolution of pacer malfunction. Proficient with temporary pacer removal.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Proficient with advanced rhythm interpretation and management
- Proficient with antiarrhythmic medication initiation, management, monitoring, and protocols.
- Proficient with independent critical rhythm management and intervention with medication and/or cardiac devices.
- Support in-hospital Internal Medicine teams and Triage services with rhythm identification and interpretation.
- Point of contact for Regions Heart Center EP Clinic and EP Device Clinic triage/management of out of hospital patients.
- Point of contact for HP satellite Device Clinic triage/and patient management for out-of-hospital patients.
- Pre/post EP procedure orders and patient management for both inpatient and outpatient cases until time of discharge.
- Admission, discharge, and inpatient management of primary EP patients.
- Independent management of direct admissions for in-hospital antiarrhythmic initiation.
- Assist cardiology CCU and Consult services with cardioversion set-up and/or procedure completion.
- Proficient with intermediate level of device programming from all major device manufacturers used at HP/Regions. Proficient with end of life/palliative care device therapy and detection programming.
- Proficient with device interrogation report and EGM interpretation.

POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The Electrophysiology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) is responsible for providing both inpatient and outpatient service with a predominate focus on the inpatient setting. In the inpatient setting, this position works as the primary EP team leader in completing initial consults, subsequent rounding, patient management, and coordination of discharge planning. Must be able to work independently with MD collaboration as needed.
In the outpatient setting, this position will see patients in electrophysiology clinic for device management, post-operative care, new consults, and complex rhythm management. Additionally supports triage services for EP Device Clinic, EP Clinic, and Heart Center. Inpatient, outpatient, and clinic duties may overlap simultaneously. Performs other duties as assigned and/or required by the EP MD.

- Reviews daily patient lists.
- Prioritizes consultations and rounding schedule according to established parameters.
- Independently develops a work plan for the day.

Independently develops diagnosis and initiates treatment plan prior discussion with staff electrophysiologists.

- Assesses and completes H&P on new consults.
- Orders diagnostic testing as indicated.
- Evaluates treatment for assigned patients and communicates information to physician partner.
- Designs follow-up plan for patients to be seen in the clinic when discharged from the
hospital.
e. Documents assessment, treatment, evaluation and follow-up plan in the electronic medical record.

Discusses with and instructs patient/family members regarding treatment and follow-up

- Interacts with patients and family members to involve them in the plan of care.
- Educates patient/family members regarding diagnosis and treatment and documents this in the electronic medical record.
- Provides written instructions when indicated.
- Prescribes medications and medical devices as indicated.

Evaluates interventions and plan of care regularly to ensure efficacy.

- Regularly reviews results of ordered diagnostics and communicates these to the partner
Electrophysiologist.
- Signs outpatients on service to APP partner when cross-covering.

- Communicates hospital course and treatment plan to referring primary care physicians upon
discharge.
b. Primary contact for Hospitalist, consulting services, EP Lab, cardiology clinic, device clinic, and outside hospitals for inpatient care coordination.

- Scheduled EP Clinic as required. Sees emergent clinic patients as required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work environment includes the inpatient nursing units and the clinic setting. Stands 6-8 hours and walks 2-4 hours daily while performing duties. May view a computer screen for up to 5 hours a day. May lift, push or pull equipment up to 50 lbs. Must be able to transport self throughout the hospital. Must be able to perform tasks requiring fine motor skills and hand/eye coordination.
ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
Office Environment: May be exposed to printer/copier cartridges, no extreme conditions.
Inpatient Environment: May be exposed to hazardous substances, harmful physical agents, and infectious agents that exist in the patient care area in the performance of duties.
EQUIPMENT:
Office Environment: Computer, fax, printer, copy machine and other office machines.
Patient Care Unit: Needles, syringes, vital sign monitors and hemodynamic lines.
