The CUNY CARES team values innovation, collaboration, continuous learning, and a commitment to advancing equity through student-centered solutions. We are seeking a talented and mission-driven Technology Solutions Engineer to help build and maintain the technology infrastructure that supports this work.

The Technology Solutions Engineer will play a key role in designing, implementing, and maintaining technology solutions that improve how students access services and supports through CUNY CARES. Reporting to the Director of the Benefits Hub, this position will work closely with program leadership, university stakeholders, and external partners to develop system integrations, automate workflows, enhance reporting capabilities, and support the ongoing evolution of the CUNY CARES technology ecosystem.

The ideal candidate is an experienced technology professional who enjoys solving complex operational challenges, building scalable solutions, and translating business needs into practical technical applications. This role offers an opportunity to directly influence how technology supports student success at one of the nation's largest public university systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain integrations across multiple technology platforms, including Microsoft Dynamics 365, HubSpot, and other university systems.
  • Support the implementation, configuration, and ongoing enhancement of technology platforms used by CUNY CARES.
  • Develop and maintain APIs, data exchange processes, and system interoperability solutions.
  • Design and implement workflow automation solutions using Microsoft Power Automate and related technologies.
  • Support Azure-based applications, services, and infrastructure used by CUNY CARES.
  • Develop and maintain reporting solutions, dashboards, and data management tools.
  • Provide ongoing maintenance and technical support for existing applications and integrations.
  • Develop technical documentation, implementation guides, and user support materials.
  • Ensure technology solutions align with standards related to security, privacy, accessibility, and data governance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Five to seven years of professional experience in software engineering, systems implementation, application development, solutions engineering, or related technical roles.
  • Experience working with APIs, databases, and cloud-based applications.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, such as Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
  • Demonstrated experience managing technical projects and independently driving work from requirements gathering through implementation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Microsoft Dynamics 365, including CRM and case-management workflows.
  • Experience administering or integrating HubSpot or similar CRM platforms.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure cloud services and application environments.
  • Experience developing automated workflows using Microsoft Power Automate.
  • Experience with SQL, database management, and data integrations.
  • Experience developing reports, dashboards, and data visualization tools.
  • Experience supporting student services, social services, case management, workforce development, or benefits access programs.
  • Experience working in higher education, government, nonprofit, or mission-driven environments.

What Success Looks Like

  • Lead implementation of priority technology initiatives across CUNY CARES.
  • Effectively communicate technology updates and changes to a wide array of stakeholders, including stakeholders who are not technical.
  • Improve interoperability among key systems and platforms.
  • Develop workflow automations that reduce staff burden and improve service delivery.
  • Enhance reporting infrastructure and data accessibility for program staff.
  • Create sustainable processes for technology maintenance, documentation, and support.
  • Serve as a trusted technical resource for program leadership and stakeholders.

Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to shape the technology infrastructure supporting student success across one of the nation's largest public university systems. The Technology Solutions Engineer will work directly with CUNY CARES leadership to design and implement systems that improve access to benefits, strengthen service delivery, and help thousands of students connect to resources that support their academic and personal success. The successful candidate will join a collaborative, mission-driven team committed to leveraging data, technology, and innovation to advance educational equity and student well-being.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
