The Facilities Engineer reports to the Facilities Manager at BioLegend and serves as a highly hands-on technical expert supporting multiple operational areas across the organization. Responsible for the general maintenance and repair of facility, laboratory, and automated order fulfillment equipment with a strong emphasis on low voltage and machinery control systems. Responsibilities unique to this position may include oversight of low voltage systems including fire alarm, burglar alarm, equipment monitoring, security cameras, photovoltaic panels, electric vehicle charging stations, and data cable installations. Includes associated program management and record retention. Would be assigned projects, as needed, to expand or improve these systems, and other facility related endeavors. Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining campus buildings and MEP systems.
This position is “hands-on”. The high-level ability to independently troubleshoot and repair related systems and oversee vendor level maintenance is essential. Work environment includes a robust Quality Management System and Safety standards (including bio-lab safety) with emphasis on regulatory compliance.

- Hands-On Troubleshooting (Mechanical, Electrical, and Controls): Apply systematic thinking, processes, and technical knowledge to investigate, diagnose and resolve non-routine issues with automated order fulfillment systems, laboratory equipment, and facility infrastructure.
- Vendor Coordination: Coordinate vendors for security officers, low voltage installations (data, monitoring) and security systems (CCTV, card access, burglar alarm), EV charging stations, PV (solar) Panels, and other specialized repairs and upgrades.
- Project Management: As needed, PM for construction projects, ranging from power/data/monitoring drop installations, new admin or lab area buildouts, and partial or whole building Tenant Improvements.
- Fire Safety: Coordinate Fire Safety System maintenance (alarms, sprinklers, gas suppression, fire doors).
- Automated Order Fulfillment System: Potential to become expert for maintenance, reliability, downtime response, and trend analysis.
- Control System Management: Familiarity and use of PLC programming, HMI interfaces, and integration with warehouse management software and other operational systems
- Technical Team Support: Oversee and support maintenance tasks and projects carried out by facility associates across multiple technical areas.
- Spare Parts Inventory Management: Maintain optimal inventory levels of critical components for automated order fulfillment system, establish reorder points, track usage patterns, and ensure proper storage conditions for sensitive parts to minimize system downtime across several technical platforms.
- Security Program coordinator: Provide officer training as needed. Review and act upon daily officer reports. Assist in occasional confidential internal investigations.
- Oversee equipment monitoring system (including coordination of automatic notifications).
- System Performance Monitoring: Track operational metrics, and uptime of critical technical systems throughout the facility.
- Quality Management System Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities, system modifications, and operational procedures adhere to ISO standards, GMP requirements, and internal quality protocols; Maintain proper documentation for audits and validation and conduct non-conformance investigations
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with warehouse, manufacturing, laboratory, and quality teams to ensure all technical systems support organizational objectives
- On call for emergencies
- Other projects or responsibilities as may be required.
Minimum Qualifications – Education and Experience
- High School Education
- 8 years of closely related work experience including extensive hands-on equipment maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair
- 3 years of experience in control systems, fire safety systems, and low voltage systems.
Preferred Qualifications – Education and Experience
- Trade School or B.S. in a related engineering discipline
- 12 years of closely related experience
- Trade certification in related fields
- Five years of experience installing and maintaining industrial control systems, electrical distribution systems, and low voltage data/monitoring systems.
- Five years of ISO biotech experience (BSL2 or above)
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for any employer.
Compensation
The base salary range for this full-time position is $81,000 - 95,000. This range reflects the minimum and maximum target for a new hire in this position. The base pay actually offered to the successful candidate will take into account internal equity, work location, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
Please note that base pay is only one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This range allows for the successful candidate to have an opportunity to progress within the position and develop at our company. This base pay range does not take into account bonuses, equity, or other benefits which may be applicable and are dependent on the level and position offered.
