Job Description
The Supervisor, Product Development Laboratory is responsible for supervising assigned Product Development Testing team activities comprising one or more of the following: engineers, technicians, model makers and modal strain personnel. Assigned responsibility will be related to one or more of the following: product engineering support, laboratory testing, model making, and/or modal strain testing. Key responsibilities include assignment and follow up of resources to complete all activities required to support assigned product development project and sustaining engineering activities. Reviews and assigns laboratory work orders to team members. Ensures proper training, setup, testing, equipment use are provided or utilized to support successful completion of assigned activities.
This position will serve Rheem North America, and located in Montgomery, AL. This is an on-site position.
Responsibilities
- Supervise activities assigned to Laboratory team members. Serve as a mentor and coach and periodically review nonexempt and exempt employees.
- Review laboratory work orders and assign Laboratory team members. Ensure proper training, setup, instrumentation, equipment, materials, testing, modal strain techniques, and modal making techniques are utilized to support successful product testing. Ensure accuracy of activities and appropriate forms are being utilized to communicate the results.
- Assign priority to work orders
- Works with Lab Management to support implementation, monitoring, and maintenance of Laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Ensure predictive maintenance activities are being done correctly and on time.
- Works with Lab Management to provide training and guidance to Laboratory team members as necessary to ensure correct Laboratory protocols are being safely applied.
- Manage and facilitate the communication process among the various departments to ensure assigned laboratory testing, model making and/or modal strain requirements are understood.
- Works with Lab Management to support development of Laboratory Standard Operating procedures (SOP).
- Has general ability to facilitate team activities necessary to achieve team objectives.
- Interpret instructions and company policies to subordinates. Assume responsibilities for maintaining a standard of performance and training of new personnel, maintenance and improvements of costs, and control of quality and quantity of work of employees.
- Works with Lab Management to develop training curriculum for Laboratory personnel on testing, model making, modal strain, equipment and instrumentation processes.
- Has ability to document team activity.
- Periodically review nonexempt and exempt employees and recommend for approval merit and/or promotional increases.
- Must attend work regularly
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (Preferred) or an equivalent combination of education, technical training, certifications, and experience.
- 5+ years’ experience in one of the following or related fields along with demonstrated ability to manage multiple assignments:Laboratory testing of HVAC, Water Heaters or other appliances Engineering design or applied research of HVAC, Water Heaters or other appliances Model making of HVAC, Water Heaters or other appliances Modal strain of HVAC, Water Heaters or other appliances
- Must have a proven track record of project related success
- Demonstrated ability to work well with others in a matrix team environment
- History of regular and consistent attendance at work
- Experience in presenting information to groups, directors, or top management
- Strong Mathematical skills
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization.
- Strong interpersonal and coordination skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills to manage multiple assignments at one time
- Must be proficient in MS Office suite
HOW TO STAND OUT
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical engineering
- Demonstrated knowledge in all areas of applicable test standards
- Technician accreditation to one or more test standards
- Working knowledge of Oracle ERP
