Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students; women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The Position

Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Engineering in the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, starting in August 2027. Our interdisciplinary engineering program offers a highly collaborative educational experience that emphasizes breadth, integration across disciplines, and strong industry engagement (https://www.roanoke.edu/majors/engineering). We seek a candidate with energetic vision, creative thought, and collaborative spirit.

A Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely-related field is required. A successful candidate must have a strong interest in teaching a wide range of undergraduate science and engineering-related courses in a liberal arts setting, in mentoring a variety of experiential learning opportunities, and in supporting efforts towards ABET accreditation. Evidence of potential for highly effective classroom teaching is required. The likely teaching load includes courses in Circuits & Electronics, Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineering, General Education, and Introductory Physics Laboratory, with potential to develop new courses. More information about Roanoke College’s general education program can be found at https://www.roanoke.edu/inside/intellectual_inquiry

This position is part of a cluster of tenure-track hires within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, including Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health and Exercise Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience. Consistent with Roanoke College's commitment to transdisciplinary education, this hire is envisioned as contributing to an interconnected academic ecosystem rather than a single program. Faculty hired through this initiative will be expected to intentionally cultivate meaningful collaborations across disciplines through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Applicants should address in their cover letter how they would contribute to this transdisciplinary vision with at least one specific opportunity for collaboration across two or more programs at Roanoke College. To learn more about these programs and others within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, visit https://www.roanoke.edu/academics/schools.

The selected candidate for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. The College is unable to provide any type of visa sponsorships for this position at this time.

To apply, please submit the following application materials:

•a cover letter

•curriculum vitae

•teaching statement

•research statement

•unofficial copies of graduate and undergraduate transcripts

Review of applications will begin December 14, 2026. All completed applications received by that date will be given full consideration, and applications received after the deadline may still be considered. After the initial review of applicants, three reference letters will be requested (at least two must directly address teaching). Questions about the position may be sent, through email, to the chair of the search Committee, Assistant Dean of the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, Dr. Richard Keithley

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
