Roanoke College is a nationally ranked residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Lutheran Church (ELCA), located in the beautiful Roanoke Valley of Virginia. A Phi Beta Kappa institution, Roanoke College is an equal opportunity employer and actively seeks diversity among its faculty, staff, and students; women and members of under-represented groups are especially encouraged to apply.

The Position

Roanoke College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Environmental Studies in the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, starting in August 2027. We seek a candidate with energetic vision, creative thought, and collaborative spirit.

The ideal applicant is an interdisciplinary scholar with expertise in the environmental sciences with an emphasis on applying physical science to understand and address environmental challenges at the Earth’s surface. Relevant areas of expertise include hydrology and watershed science, environmental geology, environmental chemistry, Earth systems science, physical geography, climate science and earth-atmosphere systems, or related fields. The ability to teach introductory and upper-level environmental science courses is required; preference will be given to candidates who can also teach courses in GIS or spatial analysis. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching and mentorship along with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary program. We value undergraduate teaching experience, demonstrated interest in experiential and active learning approaches, and research or practitioner experience that incorporates community engagement. A strong record of scholarship and development of a research program that includes collaboration with undergraduate students is expected.

This position is part of a cluster of tenure-track hires within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, including Engineering, Environmental Studies, Health and Exercise Science, Psychology, and Neuroscience. Consistent with Roanoke College's commitment to transdisciplinary education, this hire is envisioned as contributing to an interconnected academic ecosystem rather than a single program. Faculty hired through this initiative will be expected to intentionally cultivate meaningful collaborations across disciplines through their teaching, scholarship, and service. Applicants should address in their cover letter how they would contribute to this transdisciplinary vision with at least one specific opportunity for collaboration across two or more programs at Roanoke College. To learn more about these programs and others within the School of Health, Science, and Sustainability, visit https://www.roanoke.edu/academics/schools .

The salary range for this position is 65,000-70,000, commensurate with experience. The selected candidate for this position must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of hire. The College is unable to provide any type of visa sponsorships for this position at this time.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
