Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented, service-focused Associate Broker to serve as a trusted partner directly to the Broker. This individual will play a critical role in managing day-to-day client service, marketing, policy administration, and underwriting activities while helping ensure accuracy, responsiveness, and exceptional client outcomes.
This is not simply a transactional processing role. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong insurance knowledge, sound judgment, and a willingness to ask questions, challenge assumptions, and thoughtfully evaluate requests before taking action. Success in this position requires someone who is dependable, proactive, intellectually curious, and capable of balancing multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy.
The Associate Broker will work closely with the Broker on client and carrier interactions while developing the skills and confidence to independently manage responsibilities over time.
What will your job entail?
Client & Underwriter Relationship Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, carriers, and trading partners regarding policy servicing needs.
- Professionally communicate with clients and underwriters via phone, email, and virtual meetings to gather information, resolve issues, and ensure timely follow-up.
- Participate in client meetings, renewal strategy discussions, and carrier calls alongside the Broker, with the expectation of gradually assuming greater ownership and independence.
- Build productive working relationships that promote trust, responsiveness, and long-term retention.
Policy Servicing & Account Management
- Manage endorsements, policy changes, certificates, audits, cancellations, reinstatements, renewals, and other servicing transactions while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
- Review requests thoroughly before processing to ensure information is complete, coverage implications are understood, and appropriate approvals have been obtained.
- Exercise sound judgment by identifying potential issues, inconsistencies, or coverage concerns and escalating when necessary.
- Maintain organized and accurate documentation across all files and systems.
Marketing & Underwriting Support
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive submissions for underwriters.
- Review renewal and new business opportunities to identify missing information, exposure concerns, coverage gaps, and potential marketing strategies.
- Assist with quoting, binding, and placement activities.
- Analyze coverage terms, conditions, exclusions, and endorsements to ensure alignment with client needs.
- Work closely with underwriters to obtain competitive coverage solutions and timely responses.
Quality Control & Risk Management
- Conduct detailed reviews of policies, endorsements, binders, invoices, and related documentation to ensure accuracy and completeness.
- Minimize E&O exposure by maintaining strong attention to detail and adherence to established procedures.
- Verify that transactions, policy changes, and coverage requests are appropriately documented and executed.
- Identify process improvement opportunities that enhance efficiency while maintaining quality standards.
Operational Excellence
- Track outstanding items and proactively follow up with clients, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with invoicing activities, premium reconciliation, and operational workflow management.
- Effectively prioritize competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Take ownership of assigned responsibilities and consistently deliver reliable results with limited supervision.
Qualifications
Required
- 2+ years of commercial insurance experience in wholesale brokerage, retail brokerage, underwriting, account management, client service, or a related insurance role.
- Working knowledge of commercial insurance coverages and policy structure.
- Strong organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Comfortable speaking directly with clients, underwriters, and business partners by phone and video.
- Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and make thoughtful business decisions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and agency management systems.
Preferred
- Wholesale brokerage, MGA, MGU, or underwriting experience.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing coverage forms, endorsements, and policy language.
- Property & Casualty license or ability to obtain.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Finance, or related field.
- Professional designations such as CPCU, CIC, CISR, ARM, or progress toward obtaining industry certifications.
What Success Looks Like
- Becomes a trusted extension of the Broker and significantly reduces administrative burden.
- Demonstrates initiative by asking "why" and understanding the purpose and impact of requests before processing them.
- Consistently delivers accurate work with minimal errors.
- Develops the confidence and technical expertise to independently manage client and carrier interactions.
- Builds strong relationships through responsiveness, professionalism, and exceptional service.
- Takes ownership of outcomes rather than simply completing tasks.
- Continues expanding insurance knowledge and demonstrates ambition to grow into a Producer, Broker, or leadership track role.
