Job Description Summary

The Instructional Designer plays a crucial role in advancing academic excellence in online, hybrid, and classroom teaching by supporting faculty through group instruction and individualized consultation. This position contributes to the creation and implementation of professional development groups in both web-based and in-person formats while promoting the effective integration of technology into all instructional modes. Additionally, this role collaborates with faculty to develop instructional materials and curate resources to ensure an enriched learning experience.

Job Description

Responsibilities and Duties Include:

  • Collaborates and consults with faculty content experts to create and prepare instructional materials for students in online and hybrid instruction or laboratory settings.
  • Assists faculty with the selection of effective instructional strategies and the articulation of measurable course and lesson learning outcomes.
  • Consults with faculty on the application of innovative technology, including Artificial Intelligence applications.
  • Researches relevant trends and best practices for teaching and learning.
  • Provides pedagogical guidance to faculty and others as needed.
  • Acts as an advocate for teaching and learning by straying abreast of relevant trends and researching best practices.
  • Analyzes and evaluates new instructional tools and technologies and provides recommendations to improve current and future course design and delivery.
  • Reviews courses during the design, development, and delivery phase to ensure pedagogical and instructional design practices.
  • Incorporates innovative methods of content delivery into the online, hybrid, web-enhanced, and in-person classroom environment using appropriate technologies.
  • Analyzes instructional issues and provides and implements recommendations for potential solutions.
  • Serves on online course review teams.
  • Works collaboratively to develop a robust, ongoing program of faculty professional development and new faculty orientation.
  • Designs and maintains Canvas sites and routinely ensures online educational resources are accessible, updated, and functional.
  • Manages special projects as assigned.
  • Keeps a record of operating procedures and may share position specific knowledge, including use of collegewide ERP and related system processes, by providing guidance on standard operations and established departmental procedures as needed.
  • Provides service to the college through participation in events, committees, and other college activities.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Strictly honors the privacy, security, and confidentiality of records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal, and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Reports to: eLearning Director

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: A bachelor’s degree in instructional design, education, or curriculum OR a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with at least twelve (12) credit hours of instructional design coursework. Additionally, two (2) years of work experience in instructional or curriculum design is required, including experience with Learning Management Systems. A combination of education and/or experience equal to six (6) may be considered. Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Preferred: A master’s degree in a relevant field. Higher education teaching experience in either online or in-person setting, as well as experience with Canvas Learning Management System. Knowledgeable of the universal design and creation of ADA compliant online courses. Proficiency with multimedia authoring tools.

  • Multi-task - Ability to expeditiously organize, coordinate, manage, prioritize, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously to swiftly assess a situation, determine a logical course of action, and apply the appropriate response.

  • Problem Solving – proven skills in identifying issues, determining their cause, developing creative solutions, and following through with implementing resolutions.
  • Relationship Management – able to personally provide high level of interactive service to others, building relationships and addressing identified needs.
  • Results Orientation – proven ability to set and exceed established targets.
  • Systems & Software - proficient level of knowledge of Microsoft Office and/or relevant position software programs.
  • Team Orientation & Interpersonal — highly motivated team-player with ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with all levels within and external to the organization.
