The posting

About the position

Schibsted Media builds news products that more than 6 million people across the Nordics use every day. Data is at the heart of building products that people love, and we are building a modern data foundation that supports smarter personalization, user engagement, and monetization across our media brands.

We are now hiring a Senior Data Lead to join us. This is a new role, created as our data teams have grown and matured. We now want to take the next step towards a shared way of working, with common standards and best practice that hold across domains, disciplines and brands, and we are looking for someone to lead that work.

As Senior Data Lead you work directly alongside our Director of Data, with wide influence across analytics, data engineering and data science. Our Product Data teams span three domains. User covers the user lifecycle, Content covers the lifecycle of the news content we produce, and Performance works directly with our media brands. Your role spans all three, setting shared direction and standards that help teams stay aligned and move faster with data.

What you will do

You will be accountable for Product Data as a discipline, and lead the cross-product data initiatives that no single domain can own.

  • Set the direction. Together with the Director of Data, define technical and analytical direction across our data domains, and be a point of reference for analysts, data engineers and data scientists.
  • Shape how we work. Build our operating model and one shared playbook of standards, guidelines and reusable patterns, covering how data products are owned, documented and kept reliable. You do this together with lead analysts, engineers and product owners, who each drive a practice area such as metrics and KPIs, data products, engineering or experimentation.
  • Lead cross-product initiatives. Lead a small number of data initiatives that span several domains and brands, such as shared KPIs and user segments across our products.
  • Improve how we build with AI. Explore and scale new ways of using AI across data work, from better tools for analysts and engineers to agents, and set the quality bar for AI-produced analysis. Make sure our data is ready to power AI product features.
  • Partner with Schibsted's central Data teams. Work closely with our central Data and AI teams on governance, data architecture and shared standards. Bring in Product's needs and expectations, and turn shared decisions into how we work in Product.
  • Grow senior people. Coach and develop senior and lead individual contributors across all three disciplines, without line management.

What we're looking for:

You bring deep expertise in at least one of analytics, data engineering or data science, and enough fluency in the others to be credible across all three. We don't expect anyone to be an expert in everything below.

At the core, you have

  • 7+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering or data science, including several years in senior or lead roles with influence across teams.
  • Experience building shared ways of working, standards and best practice across several teams.
  • Experience designing metrics and KPIs that hold across brands, products or markets.
  • Strong SQL and data modelling skills, with hands-on experience of dbt and a cloud warehouse such as Snowflake.
  • Strong skills in Python or R.
  • Applied experience using AI and LLM tooling in analytical or engineering work.
  • Clear technical writing, ideally with experience of architecture decision records (ADRs).
  • Strong judgement about scope and priorities. You can decline or redirect work, including valuable work, so that the most important things get done.

Depth in some of these is a strong plus

  • Data mesh and data product practice, such as domain ownership, data contracts, service levels and documentation.
  • Data governance, data quality and privacy under GDPR.
  • Experiment design and causal inference, including quasi-experimental methods and holdouts.
  • ML and AI methods, deep enough to set quality and evaluation standards for others' work.

It's also a plus if you have

  • Fluent Swedish or Norwegian. You will work closely with editorial and brand stakeholders in both markets.
  • Experience from media, or from translating data work for executive and board-level audiences.

We encourage applicants from all backgrounds, experiences, and identities to apply, even if you don't meet every requirement. What matters most is your motivation and potential.

Our tech stack:

  • Data platform: AWS, Snowflake
  • Transformation and orchestration: dbt, Airflow
  • Programming and scripting: Python, SQL, R
  • Exploration and delivery: Amplitude, Superset, Streamlit, Kilkaya
  • Tracking and events: Pulse (in-house tracking), Kafka

Who you are

You lead through influence. You build alignment in groups that don't report to you, explain the why behind a standard, and are comfortable holding an outcome while someone else does the work. You write clearly, because much of what you produce has to work without you in the room. And you have good judgement about scope: you make a call, document your reasoning, and say no when something belongs elsewhere.

Why we enjoy working here:

At Schibsted, we value openness, curiosity, and collaboration. You'll be part of a diverse, inclusive workplace that encourages bold thinking and continuous learning. Our work directly supports public interest journalism, and we take that responsibility seriously.

Whether you're enabling better content decisions, driving user personalization, or shaping experimentation at scale, your contributions will help shape the future of digital media in the Nordics.

You will be joining a collaborative, impact-driven team that works across disciplines like technology, product, and editorial. We believe in structured yet flexible ways of working, balancing clear ownership with strong teamwork. Curiosity, openness, and a drive to create value through data are at the heart of how we operate. We support each other, celebrate continuous learning, and are passionate about turning complex challenges into meaningful solutions for our users and brands.

Application process:

Please apply for this position by sharing your CV with us and a letter of motivation. English is our corporate language, but you are welcome to write it in Swedish or Norwegian. Selection of candidates takes place on an ongoing basis during the process.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
