The posting

We’re seeking a Computational Chemist to join us in our mission to transform the discovery of therapeutics and materials!

Our drug discovery group of over 60 scientists includes designers, modelers, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, crystallographers, biochemists, and biologists with experience working on all common target classes and therapeutic areas. The group is supported by more than 100 software developers and engineers, as well as a large scale computer infrastructure. Four of the programs we’ve worked on in the past seven years have progressed into the clinic; two are still progressing through trials and two have been approved by the FDA.

This employee will be hired at the Senior Principal Scientist level.

Who will love this job:

  • An experienced drug designer with a proven track record of utilizing state-of-the-art computational models to advance drug discovery projects
  • A modeler with demonstrated expertise in two or more of the following molecular modeling areas: virtual ligand screening, computationally-driven lead optimization, AI/machine learning, molecular dynamics, quantum mechanics, cheminformatics, ADMET/QSPR
  • An excellent communicator with experience in one or more other disciplines of relevance to drug discovery, such as synthetic organic chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, formulation, biochemistry, physical chemistry, or analytical chemistry
  • A team player who enjoys working in interdisciplinary environments and has some background in programming/scripting and/or chemically-aware databases
  • A pharma/biotech expert

What you’ll do:

  • Support active drug discovery projects as a lead computational chemist/modeler
  • Develop modeling strategy for drug discovery projects, and take ownership of execution
  • Collaborate across global, cross-functional teams in multiple languages, accounting for differences in time zone and work culture
  • Prepare and present project updates to senior leadership, collaborators and partners
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members
  • Work closely with internal software development teams to improve our drug discovery technologies

What you should have:

  • PhD in computational chemistry, organic chemistry, or physical chemistry
  • At least eight years of industry experience
  • Fluency in Japanese, business level proficiency in English

求める人物像

  • 創薬における分子設計の豊富な経験を有し、最先端の計算モデルを活用して創薬プロジェクトを前進させた実績をお持ちの方
  • 以下の分子モデリング分野のうち、少なくとも2分野において、実績に裏付けられた専門性をお持ちの方 バーチャルリガンドスクリーニング、計算科学を活用したリード最適化、AI・機械学習、分子動力学、量子力学、ケモインフォマティクス、ADMET予測・定量的構造物性相関（QSPR)
  • 優れたコミュニケーション能力を備え、合成有機化学、薬理学、毒性学、製剤学、生化学、物理化学、分析化学、創薬に関連する他の専門分野においても、1分野以上の経験をお持ちの方
  • 多様な専門性を持つメンバーとの協働を楽しみ、チームワークを大切にできる方。また、プログラミング・スクリプティング、または化学構造情報を扱うデータベースに関する基礎知識や経験をお持ちの方
  • 製薬・バイオテクノロジー分野における深い知見と専門性をお持ちの方

主な業務内容

  • 計算化学・分子モデリングのリード担当として、進行中の創薬プロジェクトを支援する
  • 創薬プロジェクトにおけるモデリング戦略を策定し、その実行に責任を持って取り組む
  • 時差や働き方・文化の違いを踏まえ、複数の言語を用いて、グローバルかつ部門横断的なチームと協働する
  • 経営幹部、共同研究者、パートナーに向けて、プロジェクトの進捗報告資料を作成し、プレゼンテーションを行う
  • 若手チームメンバーへの専門的な指導およびメンタリングを行う
  • 社内ソフトウェア開発チームと緊密に連携し、当社の創薬技術の改善・高度化に貢献する

応募資格

  • 計算化学、有機化学、または物理化学の博士号
  • 8年以上の企業での実務経験
  • 流暢な日本語力およびビジネスレベルの英語力
