Senior Backend Engineer (UAI)

## Company Overview Avataar is a pioneering AI-native solutions provider dedicated to transforming enterprise operations through advanced AI agents. With a focus on security, scalability, and efficiency, Avataar develops domain-specific AI models and delivers innovative, high-performance AI platforms. The company collaborates with major industry leaders such as Microsoft, Google, Meta, AWS, and attracts significant investment from PeakXV and Tiger Global, positioning itself at the forefront of AI innovation globally.

## Job Summary As a Senior Backend Engineer at Avataar, you will be instrumental in building UAI (Unified AI Interface), India's trust layer for AI agents, under the IndiaAI Mission. This greenfield project aims to create a national infrastructure that ensures secure, cryptographically verified interactions between AI agents. You will develop core services, implement trust primitives, and contribute to a secure, scalable, and standards-based platform using open standards such as W3C DIDs, Verifiable Credentials, and cryptographic signatures. Your work will directly impact the creation of a trusted, peer-to-peer AI ecosystem, emphasizing ownership, security, and clear documentation.

## Responsibilities - Build Core Services: Develop control-plane services (Registry, Trust Server, Audit Ledger) or SDKs (Seeker and Provider) in Go, including REST APIs, PostgreSQL, and Redis, with minimal supervision. - Implement Trust Primitives: Work hands-on with cryptography at the platform's core, including Ed25519 signatures, DIDs, Verifiable Credentials, and short-lived signed tokens, extending shared libraries as needed. - Own Quality: Write comprehensive unit and integration tests, adhere to strict quality gates such as linting, security scans, and conformance suites within CI pipelines. - Write As You Build: Document decisions, designs, and runbooks thoroughly, producing design notes, ADRs, and operational documentation as part of your workflow. - Review and Secure: Conduct peer code reviews, enforce security best practices such as input validation, secrets handling, and error management. - Flag Early: Identify and communicate potential gaps and risks proactively, avoiding coding around unresolved issues.

## Qualifications - Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. - Experience: 5 to 7 years of hands-on experience building backend services. - Technical Skills: - Strong proficiency in Go, with clean, idiomatic, and tested code. - Experience with PostgreSQL and Redis. - Cloud experience with deployment and operation of services on AWS, GCP, or Azure. - Working knowledge of TLS, JWT, OAuth2, or OIDC. - Solid understanding of cryptography, especially Ed25519 signatures, DIDs, Verifiable Credentials, and security primitives. - Ability to debug complex issues under load. - Strong written communication skills, capable of producing clear documentation, ADRs, and runbooks.

## Preferred Skills - Experience with W3C DIDs and Verifiable Credentials. - Knowledge of JOSE, DPoP, HTTP message signatures, or JSON canonicalization (JCS). - Background in payments, fintech, or other regulated, high-trust systems. - Contributions to open source projects in Go. - Familiarity with RFC standards related to security and cryptography.

## Experience - 5 to 7 years of relevant experience in backend development, with a focus on secure, distributed systems. - Proven track record of shipping and maintaining cloud-based services at scale. - Experience working on cryptography, security protocols, or trust frameworks is highly desirable.

## Environment - The role involves working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. - Location details are not specified; the role may support remote, in-office, or hybrid arrangements. - The work involves developing national-scale infrastructure, emphasizing security, reliability, and compliance. - The environment requires a security-conscious mindset and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

## Salary Salary details are not specified.

## GrowthOpportunities Potential career growth includes advancing to technical leadership roles, contributing to national infrastructure projects, or specializing further in cryptography, security, and distributed systems within the company.

## Benefits Benefits are not specified.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
