The posting

CharteredPartners is seeking a Corporate Tax Director to lead complex advisory delivery within a respected accounting firm in Sydney. The successful candidate will own technical quality across a demanding corporate tax portfolio, lead the most intricate advisory engagements and support partners on origination and client strategy. This is a senior delivery and leadership role spanning Australian corporate tax, transfer pricing and the international tax agenda, with accountability for the standards and development of the wider team. Specific qualifications, regulatory fluency and technical breadth are detailed in the sections that follow.

Confidential Client. Applying to this position means that you are interested to have an initial confidential discussion about how we can help you to identify and join a new accounting-firm practice. With your authorisation we will exclusively run the entire application and recruitment process for you, keeping you apprised at every step. With over 30 years' combined experience of helping the most talented accounting, audit, tax and advisory professionals to make safe, well-judged moves into rewarding new roles, we have the experience, network and ability to help you.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the delivery of complex corporate tax advisory engagements, taking ownership of technical positions and conclusions.
  • Own technical quality across the portfolio, reviewing advice and setting standards for the team.
  • Advise clients on the corporate tax regime (30%, or 25% for base-rate entities), Division 7A, FBT and GST at 10%.
  • Direct transfer pricing and thin capitalisation analyses, including documentation and ATO-readiness.
  • Assess and advise on BEPS and Pillar Two obligations and their interaction with the Australian rules.
  • Support partners on origination, scoping and the development of client relationships.
  • Manage ATO engagement, including reviews, private rulings and dispute resolution.
  • Mentor and develop senior managers and managers, building technical depth across the practice.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • A recognised professional qualification, with CA ANZ membership and / or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) status through The Tax Institute strongly preferred.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience in Australian corporate tax within a public accounting firm or comparable environment.
  • Authoritative knowledge of the Australian corporate tax regime, including base-rate entity rules and Division 7A.
  • Strong command of transfer pricing and thin capitalisation principles and documentation requirements.
  • Practical experience advising on FBT, GST and withholding obligations.
  • A developing or established command of BEPS and Pillar Two and their Australian application.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex advisory engagements and own technical quality.
  • Experience managing ATO interactions, including reviews and rulings.
  • Strong leadership, review and coaching capability across a multi-level team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with senior client stakeholders.

Preferred Experience:

  • Exposure to large corporate and multinational clients across multiple sectors.
  • Experience advising on mergers, acquisitions and group restructures.
  • Involvement in tax controversy and dispute resolution with the ATO.
  • Familiarity with consolidation, losses and franking account matters.
  • A track record of supporting business development and proposals.
  • Experience contributing to technical training and knowledge-sharing.

Compensation:

Competitive package commensurate with seniority and experience, including base, performance-based bonus, long-term incentives and (where applicable) partner-track participation.

Next Steps:

This opportunity is open to Australian citizens, permanent residents and candidates holding or eligible for the relevant Australian work rights who match the above criteria. Please apply to receive prompt contact from an experienced and specialist accounting-firm recruitment consultant.

Why it works

3×

more interviews than doing it yourself with ChatGPT.

ChatGPT writes a CV and never learns what happened to it. We see every reply. For each CV we know:

  • How it was written, and how the review scored it
  • When we applied, and how long after the posting went up
  • Which posting, which company, which city
  • Who got the interview, and who heard nothing

That is how we know which CVs get called.
